Pompeo was hawkish on Russia when Obama was in office. I'll bet his loyalty to Trump supersedes any misgivings he has about Russia. He's already said that the intelligence community showed that Russia's election meddling had no effect on the outcome in the election when obviously the report came to no conclusion either way on that point.

Kaitlan Collins @kaitlancollins
NEWS: Johnny McEntee was fired because he is currently under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for serious financial crimes, a source familiar with his firing tells CNN.

This source says the charges are not Trump related.

What a shitshow

They just rehired Katrina Pierson. Not sure there are rigorous qualifications.

People close to the White House say they expect more major personnel shifts this week. An effort to rip off the bandaid fast on a number of fronts is likely.

I am guessing that he was caught up in a problem that should have been detected in the clearance process but either wasn't or was ignored.

What few seem to realize is it's not that people are no longer serving in the administration for whatever reason, it's that there's actual work involved in running the White House and the country, and it's simply not getting done. There's also the apparent problem that competent people, even those sympathetic to the goals of the Republican party don't want to work for Trump.

Somewhat related Maggie also tweets

The narrative of Trump unglued is not totally wrong but misses the reason why - he was terrified of the job the first six months, and now feels like he has a command of it.

So now he is basically saying “I’ve got this, I can make the changes I want.”

This is not to say his perception of self/confidence is in line with others’ perceptions of him. But it is part of why he is less able to be swayed.

Trump uttered something like 'Pompeo has more energy'? Has he met Wilbur Ross? At his most lucid he seems mostly asleep.

She has her issues (as do all whose stories mainly come from access) but what she's putting down here isn't surprising.

More seriously, Trump's policy regarding China and Asia generally are a mess. Trumps directionless isolationism and general ignorance has given China a huge opening to flex its muscles and increase its influence, and it has been doing so. To be sure, it isn't just Trump--in their quest for riches, our corporate driven foreign policy has forgotten that China, despite its halfway embrace of markets is a communist dictatorship. A trade war is pretty dumb though, as was pulling out of the TPP.

I don't think there's a single prominent person in the Trump administration who knows the first thing about China.
