Tillerson was slated to retire from Exxon in March 2017 at age 65 under the company's mandatory retirement policy. Not that the other stuff didn't matter, and the rumors have been around for awhile, and I don't really think Putin called Donny and told him to fire Tillerson, but I wouldn't be surprised if Russia weren't a contributing factor.
