It’s technically a foul
Fine. You wanna act like you're two? I'll act like I'm one.

Totally don’t follow what you are getting at. You have personal fouls and technical fouls. Personal fouls are well-defined physical violations against another player. Technical fouls are violations of varying degrees of breaking myriad other rules- they are technicalities. I suppose you are trying to say that technical fouls imply some sort of precision, and I just can’t get behind that at all.

Outside of defensive three seconds in the NBA, every technical foul I am aware of - that is, that is given the name technical foul - is for personal behavior, usually having something to do with unsportsmanlike acts - those things the NFL calls “personal fouls.”

Again, it’s physical violations vs all other violations.

I see your point, never thought of it quite that way - just to me something like “over the back” or “reaching” are more “technical” than “personal,” while Westbrook screaming at an official just now is a “personal” foul for unsportsmanlike conduct.

I understand 1's distinction, but agree with you that the term isn't really very descriptive. Feel like there should be some sort of personal conduct category as distinct from violations that are mere technicalities (rather than just having these as a subset). Calling for am extra timeout seems very different in nature than questioning the parentage of a ref, not to mention in the NBA there can be contact between players resulting in a technical foul, provided the clock is not running.

It's simple. The only demonstrative letter that can be made by two hands is a "T", so they had to name the infraction to match the gesture.

Sitting at the Maryland MVA... waiting 45 minutes... need to be at work by 2... ugh
Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response

Didn't realize td left, but he hasn't posted since 12/2. I see he also requested to be "preemptively" banned, but I don't remember him going full-wwry and making death treats and trolling on purpose.
