The president’s friend, Thomas J. Barrack, is quoted in “Fire and Fury” as calling him “not only crazy but stupid.”

But Barrack denied saying any such thing and compared Trump to Socrates in an interview with the New York Times.

If Wolfe is ready to hyper accelerate his book, he needs to have a few select journalist listen to the recordings... if they are real. That said, this book needs to get to being ignored by noon today both to get to actual reporting of meaningful news, and as not to push super stable genius over the edge.

Whatever your feelings on this book, it essentially ended Bannon's career in mainstream politics. Nobody will touch him after this.

Some might say this helped the Republicans because they can now run less cringy candidates in 2018. I wouldn't underestimate Republican primary voters: they still love Trump and they still hate McConnell/Ryan/establishment.

The book has also caused a meltdown by Trump like we haven't seen. As President, he tried to stop a book in America from getting published. This is the kind of shit you saw in communist Czechoslovakia. I think it's important because I feel like some in this country don't fully grasp the urgency about Trump and what he's doing to this country. Maybe the book thing might make some of them finally realize that he's a dangerous person.

We need more cases like this, not less.

I'm over the Maggie Habermans of the world and all the other journalists who think they're too good to stoop to Trump's level. I appreciate what Wolff did. He went into Trump's home and bitchslapped him. This will now expose Trump a little more because he won't let it go, and every time he does something fucked up, it'll be his fault not Wolff's.

Didn’t the Times do a story on Trump being a doddering old Fox News viewer in a bathrobe, and a bunch on just how dysfunctional the West Wing is?

Not to mention the significant difference between a daily news account and a book

I think a lot of people in this country tune out the media or they simply do not read papers like the NY Times, etc. That doesn't account for the people who don't believe the media.

I believe the book excerpts have reached some of these people. They're everywhere. And they take very little time to read, as opposed to a long-winded Times articles. I enjoy reading the Times but I feel like I have to go thru paragraph after paragraph of prologue before I even get to the story.

The fact that Wolff will now make the rounds, appearing on the TODAY show, etc. while saying stuff like "Even Jared and Ivanka think Trump is a child" or "I'll quote Steve Bannon, Trump's lost it" can only help.

I think the media in general has done a good job exposing some of the Russia stuff but they've done a poor job exposing Trump for the lunatic that he is. They've normalized the man actually. Wolff's book hits Trump the man, his mental issues and inability to actually do his job because he's a child who watches too much television and doesn't read. That's more damaging to his public persona than you think.

This is the part I disagree with. The American people and the office "normalized" him, not the press.

Not to say they've been perfect by any means, but when he has said the sky is red, they've called him on it. And there's been more of a spotlight on the dysfunction (rightfully) than I've ever seen.

As a somewhat not stupid human I'd love for Haberman et al to just eviscerate him 100% of the time. But that's not their role

Fair enough. I don't want to be critical of the media because I feel like they've done a very good job revealing a lot of stuff that we as citizens need to know about the Trump administration. And I appreciate that.

My point though is that many in the media shrugged their shoulders at the book and claimed that everything in it was an open secret. Probably but that's the problem right there. The media needs to stop whispering in the background about Trump's mental issues and make sure that Americans know everything about their President. Thanks to this book, you now see journalists on TV freely talking about Trump being mentally unstable and actual cable news shows dedicating an entire segment to it, whereas before it was said in passing.

Donald J. Trump‏ @realDonaldTrump
I’ve had to put up with the Fake News from the first day I announced that I would be running for President. Now I have to put up with a Fake Book, written by a totally discredited author. Ronald Reagan had the same problem and handled it well. So will I!

So is he admitting that he's mentally not well?

the underlying problem:
Trump is facing a similar problem that plagued Obama: The stock market is soaring, but wages are stagnant. The Dow Jones industrial average jumped 25 percent in 2017 and is up more than 30 percent since Trump won the election, but those gains largely accrue to the wealthiest Americans, including many of Trump's donors and close friends. Almost half of the country doesn't have a single dollar in the stock market. While some in the middle class do invest via pension funds and 401(k) retirement plans, only a quarter of American households have more than $25,000 in the market, according to a Deutsche Bank report released this week.

massive wealth inequality
CEOs are complaining they can't find enough good workers to fill all of their job openings. Talented workers have largely figured out that the best way to get a raise in this economy is to change jobs. ADP, a company that processes payroll for many of America's largest corporations, tracks wage and salary data. For years, ADP has pointed out that people who change jobs get a bigger pay bump than people who stay put.

If CEOs don't want their best workers to leave, they are likely going to have to pay more.

this analysis leaves to rot those working in the service industry. just get a better job, amirite folks?!?!

Thinking aboutnet neutrality and cord cutting--within probably two years, or maybe less, the basic cable tv market will be done. Cable companies will survive by providing broadband. So, what they will try to do is turn broadband back to cable. With net neutrality, the cable side of the cable tv business would be dead. In essence, getting rid of net neutrality save the cable tv model. Its not about isps, its about cable tv. Those two overlap a lot, which is why I think so many missed why this really matters.

Jake Tapper had Stupid Steven Miller on, and kicked him off. Miller was the Miller we’ve all seen in public when he escapes his cage. Terrible evil version of Squidward Q. Tentacles character who fights completely unmoored about his agenda independent of topic, reality or fact. He is repugnant and should never be booked as a guest. I came in late, and was glad it ended quickly.

“The Fake News Awards, those going to the most corrupt & biased of the Mainstream Media, will be presented to the losers on Wednesday, January 17th, rather than this coming Monday,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“The interest in, and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated!”

"I get it. There’s one viewer that you care about right now and you're being obsequious and you’re being a factotum in order to please him, OK,” Tapper told Miller, who was defending the president.

There's a report that Trump's work day doesn't even start until 11AM and he works until 4. The rest of the time is spent on TV, tweeting, and calling his NYC buddies.
