An on the ground GOP dude said that it is more likely that GOP voters just don't go the the polls this round, then reset for the general election.

Well I'm kinda backing off that. I do think he's useful to contain Trump but he's said way more than he'd need to just to mollify the Orange Buffoon.

FTR I prefer that Moore lose the election - immediate short term payoff. Longer term, the GOP has to reckon with its ugly racist bigots. Getting light on them is good.

If he wins he'll be a senator elected by the people of Alabama. He'll make Ted Cruz look like a beloved member of the Senate GOP Conference by comparison, but he'll be a senator, and they'll want his vote.

A new accuser is supposedly coming forward today at 2:30 PM and going to accuse Moore of sexually assaulting her when she was a minor in Alabama. This is according to her attorney Gloria Allred.

It comes down to that the powers that be would rather have Child Predator (R) than Literally Anyone Else (D). They can rescind his nomination, can't they?

I know that your standard elected Republican can only distance themselves or pull endorsements and I'm glad they're doing that.

I think its been 4 thread generations where we are trading on this theme. Cruz wins big if Moore is elected. Since Cruz stumped for him, what is his opinion of this shit show now?

"These are serious and troubling allegations," Cruz said in a statement. "If they are true, Judge Moore should immediately withdraw. However, we need to know the truth, and Judge Moore has the right to respond to these accusations."

Meanwhile back at possibly the literal ranch, Democratic challenger Rep. Beto O'Rourke blasted Cruz in a fundraising email for supporting Roy Moore.

The national party can't do anything. It spent millions of dollars trying to beat him. Voters voted. He won. At the state level it's too late to take him off the ballot, and it's too late to add anyone to the ballot. Voting has already started.

The entity responsible for electing Republicans to the Senate has severed ties with the Moore campaign. If the powers that be wanted him to win, they aren't acting like it.

I read somewhere though I can't find it, so this could be fake news, that he can't be taken off the ballot but if his nomination is rescinded, his win wouldn't be certified.

One might quip that The Powers That Be are now the county party chairs in every Red state. After all, the "establishment" picks are struggling at best and losing at worst. And the ones in Bama are still supporting Moore, often to a downright disturbing degree.

the Alabama governor can move the election at his discretion, so If the new accusation is damning I would not be surprised if he moves it to convince Moore to drop out

He's not doing it from a moral high ground. He knows the seat is very vulnerable with Moore. If he steps down it gives about a month to organize a write in for Luther Strange (or Trump's wet dream of Sessions stepping down).

really pathetic and anti-democratic if he did that. he set the date; stick to it. it's not the fault of the Democratic candidate in it that the GOP voters picked a pedophile.

Gov. Ivey already stated she wouldn't change the date. Obvious caveat that she's a politician, but yea.

You also have to think any attempt to mobilize a write in campaign would either cannibalize the conservative vote, or lead to voters staying home. It's weird that it would almost be disappointing for Doug Jones to lose this seat.
