its not 100% on pharma. most of these doctors go off of checklists. if a patient says they're in pain. they prescribe something for pain. if they don't prescribe them something for pain then they'll lose their patient and get bad marks/reviews. its easy for a patient to sue a doctor and say he didn't treat me for the pain i was in and my life was miserable for it. its the whole complex of insurance, malpractice, availability of medicine and not being able to tell a person they need to suffer a lot of pain even though we have a drug that will take the pain away.

Is it really that common that a doctor is held liable for failure to prescribe an opiate?

maybe not for malpractice but they can lose a patient or be taken to the medical board for not 'properly' treating a patient.

I don’t follow these things so maybe you know more about this than I do, but I find it hard to believe a physician would be sanctioned in any way for failure to prescribe an opiate. And, if he or she prescribed an opiate when not indicated because of fear of losing a patient, I would say that physician is acting unethically.

I've decided to be bold and look foolish:

no, I don't think he will lose

it will be interesting to see if the Washington Senate goes Democratic. big things can happen if it does.

Didn't think an old guy like that would legally change his name in such an edgy way. Kudos.

Would certainly be surprising if he did. And if he does the (public) polling is still broken articles/takes will be well justified (with a few exceptions).

Sure seems well within the realm of possibility. He's +2.8 in the RCP average right now which (Silver says) puts the 90% CI at Northam +11 to Gillespie +5.

In NJ Gov race, Murphy still leads Guadagno by 14.4 pts, on average. The Quinnipiac poll released this morning has Murphy's lead down to 12 points from 20 points two weeks ago. Murphy being carried by women and non-white voters.

In Northam's corner - he's tied or up in essentially every public poll, in many by significant margins
In Gillespie's corner - GOP has been releasing internals that show him narrowly ahead, and Dems have not answered with their own; GOP have outperformed their polls by a lot in VA in recent off year elections

Could Gillespie win? Sure. But I think conventional wisdom, having been made shy by events that occurred 363 days ago, is wayyy overcorrecting to overestimate Gillespie's chances.

I have no non-public knowledge on this, but the public data out there points to Northam being a solid favorite.

Northham is trying to see how many things his campaign can screw up and still win. I mean he is the perfect purple candidate being a two tour veteran, gun owning, doctor who went to VMI, but no... he is not doing very well fending off absurd attack, which seems to be what team Gillespie is best at. Gillespie is a pretty iffy character himself with his lobbying background to include good old Enron, but he has made hay out of the third party ad showing a pickup truck with stars and bars on it chasing children which has morphed into the racist against good old white people/stealing our heritage platform (page 2 of the Trump Victory handbook).

Kellyanne Conway's old firm just released a poll showing Northam up 1, when they had Gillespie up 3 in their last track last week. Genuinely puzzled over who their client is and why they'd release it publicly, but more grist for the Northam is a solid favorite mill.

sometimes people release bad polls to goose support, no? she's certainly been feeling her oats in the past year, perhaps she thinks she can now do no wrong

Russian lawyer wants to meet with senate judiciary committee and/or Mueller to talk about Don Jr.

Veselnitskaya also claimed that he wanted “financial documents showing that money that allegedly evaded U.S. taxes had gone to Clinton’s campaign,” according to Bloomberg. But she said that she did not have them.
