Trump called during the funeral and staffers left "frantic messages" after that, but she was too busy with setting foundation and memorials to answer. She hasn't had a chance to see the clip of Trump at his press conference until yesterday and has now decided to not meet with Trump, as a handshake and saying sorry will not wash it away.

I assume this was in response to "she said some very nice things about me"?

Gotta find a link with both segments and FB it. So sick of this "everybody just nitpicks everything he says!" phenomenon.

the response was to the crazy press conference he had (fine people who protested the statue removal the night before, dangerous alt-left, etc) as she hadn't see it until after the funeral

I think "treason" and "taking up arms against the USA" are pretty good on-the-fly answers to "where does it stop?"

I think that would be pretty confusing if someone was asking about Taney or Rizzo

“I hope Trump is assassinated!” Missouri state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, D-University City, wrote during a morning Facebook exchange, referring to Republican President Donald Trump.

She quickly deleted her post, but not quickly enough. By midafternoon, the political verdicts of her own party were rolling in:

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.: “I condemn it. It’s outrageous. And she should resign.”

U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay, D-St. Louis: “(C)alling for the assassination of the President is a federal crime. … (She is) an embarrassment to our state. She should resign immediately.”

Missouri Democratic Party Chair Stephen Webber: “The … Party will absolutely not tolerate calls for the assassination of the President. I believe she should resign.”

she hasn't resigned yet; pathetic.

Shit like that really does not help at all. As much as I despise Adolf, calling for his assassination is as disgusting as it is illegal. Forget waiting for a resignation, remove her from office.

Illegal, immoral, disgusting, and if their wish were granted, counter-productive to the goals of the people who call for it.

It stops when and where the people want it to stop, just as the commission and erecting of statues begins and continues when and where the people wish it to continue.

Public statues erected in public spaces are an expression of the will of the people at that locale, at the time they are erected. There is nothing anywhere to suggest that, through the generations, as the people change, the "will" of the people must forever stay the same. A 1990s Philadelphia may have wanted, as expressed through their duly elected representatives, a statue of Frank Rizzo; this does not, nor should it, bind the people of 2010s Philadelphia to continue to want said statue.

So it is everywhere.

Oregon joins NY and California in covering the cost of abortion services:
The law allocates almost $500,000 from Oregon's general fund over the next two years to expand cost-free reproductive health coverage, including abortions, to immigrants who are otherwise ineligible under the state's Medicaid program, which currently spends nearly $2 million a year to pay for roughly 3,500 abortions statewide.

The bill passed in July by the Legislature requires insurance companies to cover abortions at no cost to the patient. The voting was generally along party lines, with Democrats in favor and Republicans opposed.

It also includes coverage of STI screenings, birth control, and more.

nothing's changed:
He continued: “I’m not a fan of Nazis. I’m not a fan of Black Lives Matter. I’m not a fan of the knuckleheads who have nothing to do. I’m a fan of the president. What he said was politically incorrect, and I like that about the guy.”

Bales, McCoy’s stepson, drove up the rocky driveway. When we first met, shortly after he’d painted those giant letters on the trailer, Bales praised Trump’s straightforward nature, telling me, “If you watch Family Guy and you like Trump, you can’t be mad at the s--- he says. The dude has a sense of humor.”

This time, though, Bales was in no mood to talk about the man who’s made headlines seemingly forever.

“I don’t really care,” he told me when asked for reaction on Trump’s recent comments. “I’m sick of this s---. You bash him on everything he says. Let him be president.”

“They’re beating him up pretty badly,” Fitzpatrick said. “Every time he does something, they start slamming him. He’s cleaning out, getting rid of the dead wood. He’s kicking ass and taking names, and they don’t like it.”

“Finally, we have a president who’s honest, and people can’t handle honesty,” Jane said. “The KKK has their opinion that they don’t like certain people. I don’t like certain people. Does that make me a racist?”

She continued: “He’s coming out against both parties, and I think that’s fair. They’re both violent.”

Added Carole, “It’s not (Trump’s) fault. People will think what they want. Foreigners get everything handed to them, and I work my butt off for everything I have.”

Read this article in the NY Times and tell me you don't get the feeling that Trump is at this moment one more push away from really passing over the line into actual, visible, committable mental breakdown that will not just invite but require professional treatment.
