There is so much that the Trump regime does that would've been completely unthinkable under even Bush's tenure (hell, on a ton of the stuff we actually have former Bush administration officials - or even Bush himself on at least one occasion - publically railing against) that I can understand there being a temptation to try and parse out the worst from the pile of shit, but that doesn't change the fact that its all a pile of shit. If you start letting the "little stuff" that is awful go unchallenged because you're only focused on the truly horrendous stuff then you risk normalizing the former. We have to resist everything that is harmful to safeguard ourselves from as much lasting stench from this rotted corpse of a presidential term as we can post-2020.

Edit. I should say, in the extremely unlikely event that they actually put together something that isn't a flaming bag of poo left on America's doorstep and actually helps people then we should obviously not resist that just to spite Trump. We'll leave those sorts of tactics to Mitch McConnell.

Insofar as resistance meaning simply dismissing everything due to it coming from Trump and his Republican Party, I don't think that way about it. I'm willing to agree with something; however, outside of signaling an increase in the gas tax I am honestly hard pressed to come with something they've proposed that I'd agree with on a political, diplomatic or policy basis. It's up to them to give me something to support, I think.

We (myself compared to the Republican party) want very different things and accept very different facts, so it's not out of line that I'd dismiss most of what they're doing.

RUSSIAN MILITARY INTELLIGENCE executed a cyberattack on at least one U.S. voting software supplier and sent spear-phishing emails to more than 100 local election officials just days before last November’s presidential election, according to a highly classified intelligence report obtained by The Intercept.

The top-secret National Security Agency document, which was provided anonymously to The Intercept and independently authenticated, analyzes intelligence very recently acquired by the agency about a months-long Russian intelligence cyber effort against elements of the U.S. election and voting infrastructure. The report, dated May 5, 2017, is the most detailed U.S. government account of Russian interference in the election that has yet come to light.

this is particularly interesting because Greenwald was calling all of this Russia stuff hysteria like a Brietbart source for the last 9 months. He's such a sloppy dipshit that the NSA source has been arrested already.

Republicans literally ran and got elected a deranged reality tv star, none of that is an exaggeration. The only things modern conservatism cares about are endless war, cutting taxes for wealthy, restricting voting access, etc. As long as he rubber stamps their horrible agenda which is esp vicious to middle class, poor, women, and minority voters, they couldn't care less what he is doing to their image. Dems are complicit by having zero messaging and constantly compromising on ideals

The fact that republicans are still acting like they should be trusted to govern is amazing. The whole party is a clown show

I don't disagree AT ALL that this administration is unhinged and dangerous. That's actually the main reason I voted for HRC - "status quo" has worked out well for me personally and many people I know, so maintaining that was more important than whatever gains Trump touted (and obviously more than the risks associated with him).

I also don't disagree that the modern GOP is a joke. It absolutely is, which is in part why I asked on here last week about whether Pence as President would actually be worse (because at least Trump also has plenty in the GOP wary of his agenda).

All I was/am trying to provide is some sort of civil discourse to sort out what is ACTUALLY a big, immediate deal because people are freaking out daily/weekly about everything (Syria missles, healthcare, tax reform, covfefe, Paris accord, Russia, etc.) and I honestly don't know how much of it is a warranted threat and how much of it is simply disagreement with anything and everything Trump does and says because he's Trump.

all of those things save covfefe are historically significant events in modern US politics. they also represent a diametric opposition to a lot of American's belief systems, so in most cases I think the response has been justified. that you think the stepping out of the Paris Accord is just meh, is a pretty unfortunate and sad perspective to a lot of folks, including me. climate change is a huge threat to global security. I'd like to stave off the evil that it will bring as long as possible. that you also think people are responding negatively to this is because we're all sheltered millennials indoctrinated by universities is definitely an unfair and inaccurate projection that borders on drunk racist uncle type shit.

i agree that it's fascinating for the intercept to break this given gg's dismissive attitude towards russian meddling. but they're generally pretty good at reporting on the USG, imo.

also i see the intercept getting piled on for the source getting arrested, but according to the NSA arrest document it says she was one of only 6 people to print the article and the only one to have email contact with the website (presumably from her work email). feel like they would've got her anyhow. basically i agree with this tweet here: https://twitter.com/max_read/status/871853843906265092

Serious question, how does someone named Reality Winner have access to state secrets to begin with?

He's clearly building the excuse for when this gets shot down by the SC.

"I tried to live up to my promise voters. There's just too much red tape in DC blocking me from keeping you all safe."

It's downright perfect strategy if you know your order is DOA. Building towards using an attack in the US for political gain.

I've been saying all along that I wonder if the Russians hacked our election software. Could you imagine, especially if the Trump folks knew the Russians were doing this?

Not likely but scary that we are now progressing that way per this classified document. And quite interesting that Putin accused Hilary of direct interference in his election.

I am not a lawyer though I think Trump's EO would be constitutional if ordered by Obama or anyone else who hadn't said what he did in the campaign. And I think it stood a very good chance of being upheld by the court considering how most justices feel about literal intent and whatnot. If campaign promises could come into play, would Obamacare have stood? But Trump continues to gong reality over the head with a hammer, and much as I might love Gorsuch pleading textualism, I would not be surprised this ending up unanimous or nearly unanimous against the administration. And he could've won on the merits if he kept his Twitter mouth shut.
