I liked it. Well shot, well constructed, well scored. Don't need to see it again though.

Kwaidan is a collection of traditional Japanese ghost stories, including this one which is about the spirts that hung around centuries after a great sea battle. (gotta cover the ears!) Pretty cool stuff.

The French spy parody films OSS 117: Lost in Rio and OSS 117:" Cairo Nest of spies are both a real hoot. Great for parcticing eithe you French double entendres or American straight ahead profanity (a particularly the first).

Interestingly the character OSS 177 was created well before James Bond and featured in numerous novels and films. But these two recent films are homages and spoofs of the genre. Not a lot more subtle than the Austin Powers films, but certainly as funny.

saw the Hulu doc "Dumb" about the skate mag/video company Big Brother. For any white people/American outsiders, I'd say it's a tremendous insight into white youth culture in America.

Saw "Now You See Me" over the weekend. Pretty cool- I knew there was some sort of twist coming, but have no CLUE what it ended up being. Well done. Hope the next two aren't endemic of M. Knight follow-up-dud disease.

watched james franco's As I Lay Dying expecting it to be a fun baffling bad movie but its actually a fairly competent adaptation. i can imagine them making high school kids watch it after they read the book. excited to finish off franco's auteur faulkner duology with The Sound and the Fury

Watched baby Driver. Really enjoyed it even though I thought it was a bit hokey in spots.

Santa Claus robs a Toronto bank - but nebbish bank clerk Elliott Gould saw it coming, & took advantage. That's the story of The Silent Partner (1978).

Sounds dull.

Nope.

With Suzannah York, Christopher Plummer & John Candy(!?!). With an incidental score by Canadian jazz pianist Oscar Peterson
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)
