Honestly if you didn't like book 4, then you should probably stop. The middle books get really bogged down in world-building. And after a killer (and long) climax in book 9, book 10 literally goes nowhere (not that big of a deal for me, but others hate that book).

I haven't read the KC novellas either. I think I'm going to wait on the novellas until I re-read KC #1 and #2 prior to #3 coming out.

Reading the Mistborn Secret History novella has pushed me back into Mistborn though. I'd been putting off finishing the Wax and Wayne trilogy just because I didn't find those characters as compelling as Kelsier, Vin, Sazed, and the rest of that crew, but there's enough in that Secret History book to make me re-read Alloy of Law and push ahead.

Also, since you brought it up, 11/22/63 is my favorite King novel in years. Easily in my top five of his stuff with The Stand and It being the only ones that I'd definitely put ahead of it without giving it some real thought (though I've admittedly never read The Dark Tower books). I'd probably put The Green Mile and The Long Walk or The Shining behind it. I can't wait to check out the miniseries.

This discussion prompted me to look up Sanderson's timeline for releasing Stormlight #3. (His website is awesome and he gives constant updates about the status of what he's working on.) He's halfway done with his first draft and thinks he'll have a draft completed by the middle of the year. He estimates that rewrites, art, etc., will push the release into early 2017. But he's making up for that by writing a Stormlight novella that will be included in a short story collection later this year.

He discusses his progress a bit more in this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/41r099/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_2/ (minor spoilers but not really)

Sanderson is great to his fans and has a prodigious work ethic. It's really nice to see a guy like him make it big.

yeah, read that reddit thread when he first posted it. the books are absolutely ginormous so it doesn't bother me waiting longer than we would have liked. the 'getting 4 books for 1' is a good way to put it. dudes an animal with his writing abilities.

Not to mention that they're so loaded with worldbuilding details--the maps, sketches, the appendices, etc.--that you can get multiple readings of them and damn near feel like you're reading them for the first time, especially if you read all of his Cosmere works. For example, one of the interludes in Way of Kings (the Purelake) features worldhoppers*, one of whom is featured prominently in the Mistborn trilogy. I didn't pick up on his description until my second read of WoK, which came after my second full read of the Mistborn trilogy.

* Worldhoppers are individuals who have figured out how to travel between Cosmere worlds--Hoid/Wit is one.

yeah, i was aware of Hoid as a worldhopper. he mentions himself by name in the first Mistborn(the beggar that sells secrets). really looking forward to picking up more connections as i go along.

was going to dive into dark tower but i might put that on hold to finish the mistborn series

Along those lines, Hoid is actually in every Cosmere book (I'm fuzzy on the short stories). Sometimes it's just someone we encounter in passing and he has no impact on the story. Other times he is a major character, like Stormlight or Warbreaker.

The Harry Potter play that is opening this summer will also be available in book form. Well the script anyways. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II.

The Breaks of the Game deserves the hype. Dives deep into the 1979-80 Trailblazers but also the over-expansion of the NBA, the shifting landscape of TV sports, the effects of free agency and drug use, Walton, etc

I refuse to read a book about cursed child parts.

Finished book 3 of the second Mistborn Era over the weekend. Holy crap. Highly recommend it and the Secret History novella.

(It's actually the second of a trilogy--the first book in that Era, Alloy of Law, is technically a stand-alone book.)

On the Trent train, I'll finish A Brief History of Seven Killings tonight. No comment on it yet.

Probably going to read Black Flags (a history of ISIS) next.

reading Tim Weiner's Legacy of Ashes: The History of the CIA. Not conspiracy oriented, just fact based. Very damning.

Next up: The Revenant.

I'd like to start using a Kindle, what do you guys recommend? Well honestly, I have an older Kindle Keyboard 3G/Wifi that I don't use, but i could trade it in to amazon for 30 bucks plus an extra 20 on a Kindle upgrade promotion they are running. It might give me incentive to read a little more. Not sure what more I want, maybe something brighter, maybe more seamless. Should I even look to upgrade?

That's what I have and use personally. If you do look to move on from it, you can probably get more than $50 for it on eBay? I believe those 3G ones have some demand still.
