Via 313 serves bar pies and Detroit-style pizza in Austin. I still haven't been to Detroit for this stuff, but this one is superb. Kind of like the Best Sicilian Ever. Baked without sauce, which is ladled on post-bake. Cheese deliberately wraps around the edge for a caramelized crunch on every slice. The bar pie was also excellent, but this one was the star.

If you can get to Manheim on a Tuesday, Norma makes an even better Detroit pie at Roots Country Market.

my only criticism is that they put the pepperoni UNDER the cheese, denying it a chance to crisp up and brown

Went to pizzeria Verti in Center City today for the first time. Had their slice of the day which is a thicker Sicilian style. It was good but the star of that place is their rotolo. Seriously one of the best things to eat in Philly

St. Philip in Austin. This was the "NYC Pepperoni" pie and it was excellent.

In Fredericksburg (TX Hill Country) I got flagged as "you ain't from around here" when I ordered "pie" not "pizza"

Nothing special to look at, but this was a genuine NYC slice in Austin at Home Slice. Thin crust, crispy yet chewy and foldable. Topped w meatball and onions. Place was packed with Portland-style hipsters.

Bazbeaux, the iconic pizza of Indianapolis. Crust was medium-thin and sturdy, but not distinctive like those Austin pies. Tasty toppings include house made Italian sausage and chorizo (both on this pie) and Andouille. Too much cheese. This would have been Grade A 15 years ago, but is just a B or B+ today. Lovely people here in Indy, but not a great pizza town. Stick with steaks at St Elmo or Harry&Izzy.

No ... weak pun attempt to leverage your imo observation to a reference to an actual St. Louis pizza chain - Imo's - which I've never visited

Doesn't belong in this thread, really, but the $8 Lorenzo's slice at the Wells Fargo Center is tough to beat for enjoyment and value

Compared to other options at Wells Fargo Center, yes.

Breakfast pizza @ Wolfgang Puck Express - Indy Airport.

Fairly authentic Neapolitan pie from a wood-fired oven. Great flavor and balance - slightly undercooked but otherwise spot-on. Pretty equivalent to Rapidough's.

The good news is - there is going to be a LOT of these "pretty damned good" Neapolitan chains.

The bad news is that they will drive out a lot of the fabulous pies that cost a little bit more.

Enjoy this pizza renaissance while it lasts.
