Interesting. I was just spitballing. I would think that every piece of shrapnel removed from victims would immediately be passed to te FBI to be analyzed

Maybe they will be. A doctor who is doing surgery on a ton of different people and pulling out pellets/nails from their lower bodies will begin to notice a pattern. The pellets, most certainly from the bomb, the nails, questionable, but in his best guesstimation, were from the bomb.
