WA, OR, ID, MT, and ND were the only states to see totality, in the mid-morning. It was cold and dreary, and unfortunately many people did not see the eclipse due to rain.

I remember this vividly. My mom was driving me to the hospital to get tubes put in my ear and it suddenly got crazy dark.

Yeh, I saw one when I was a kid and it was pretty amazing. You can see how prehistoric cultures would give the event so much meaning.

thanks, other than making sure i head to the right route, i'll probably just let the disembodied voice on the dashboard navigate me in places like this, but I will make sure I at least look at a map first.

going to be an adventure for sure

So that extra CO2 in the atmosphere is damaging plant nutrition...

http://www.politico.com/agenda/story/20 ... 11?cid=apn

Since even climate change deniers recognize that CO2 is increasing, maybe they'll care about this? Or will this be called another scientist hoax?

That's scary shit. We are so screwed.

LOL at climate deniers thinking this has anything to do with them, though. There ain't no plants in McDonalds and Cheetos.

A Piece of Cassini Escaped Destruction is hurling through space at an estimated 68400 mph.

The part of Cassini that still exists isn't an essential piece of the probe, or anything that's still usable - instead, it's a cover for the Cosmic Dust Analyzer (CDA) that was present on Cassini's body. During launch, the CDA was shielded with a piece of aluminum which got detached and discarded before the probe began its journey to Saturn in earnest.

I was just reading about the Psu program the other day. Coursera has an interesting program for teachers that I'd like to do

You should do it. Watershed management is hugely important and will be even more important going forward.

Flat Earthers say that Antarctica is a 150 foot ice wall around the outside of the disk. Just wow.

“If you’re in a helicopter and you hover why does the Earth not come to you if it’s round?

“Why, if we’re hurtling through space, why would water stay still? Why is it not wobbling?

“Also if you fire a laser about 16 miles, if the world was curved, you shouldn’t be able to see it but you can.”

It is. At the same time, I’m not sure how I would feel if we really could prove that we’re just a bunch of ones and zeros.
