So where should we go in the path of totality? Ideally fly in the morning of the 21st and fly back that evening, but may have to stay a night or two depending on flight schedules.

Somewhere out west is most likely to have clear skies but you'd have to fly a day early. I'd probably go to Charleston myself.

Don't expect to find a room, and probably even spaces for tents are in short supply.

There will be another total eclipse in 2024, and totality will only be about an hour from where in live.

booked a room at the fabulous regency inn in Columbia, SC

flights proved real costly so we're driving the 9 1/2 hours on Sunday. Only booked one night, but I'm sure if we feel like staying we'll be able to extend.

think i'm gonna head west to harrisburg and down 81 and 77. 26 minutes longer per google maps. Probably will be more scenic skirting around the edge of some national forests on the virginians border.

Calvin - why Asheville? It's not in the path of totality, is it?

Hope Bucky has clear sailing on 95. That can be a nightmare any time and day.

If you want scenic, go 117

tryin' to find the balance between scenic and efficiency. 9 1/2 hours in the car with the kid could be disastrous.

As far as the eclipse itself: "If you only think you saw a total eclipse, I promise you - you didn't!"

Here's what Philly saw pretty much exactly the time I was born. My mom always complained about the delivery room doc watching the eclipse out the window while i was trying to hatch. In the continental US only Maine saw totality during that one.
