there may be a habitable planet that has life and we might find out in our lifetimes!

I was going to post about that. Great luck that our closest neighbor is a prime target.

Too bad we can't seem to make the commitment necessary to take the next step in exploration. But there are places to bomb and whatnot.

This slipped past me, but the EmDrive paper passed it's peer review last month.

And here's a 15 minute video with the inventor (dryly) explaining why it isn't magic.

I was absolutely fascinated about going to Mars as a kid and it mostly continued into my adulthood. I belong to the Mars Society and everything. Saw the guy who founded that group (Zubrin) do a talk at Dartmouth. It was really inspiring. But the momentum going at the time died down and I had gotten to the point where I figured I would never see us get there. Now I have renewed hope. But yeh, there are a lot of hurdles to clear yet. He does seem like the type of person who could get it done though. We have the technology. It's more of a matter of will and money. He has both.

forget EM Drive peer review, it is going up as a proof of concept 6U (I think that is the size) cube sat.

http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/energy/a22678/em-drive-cannae-cubesat-reactionless/

Remember that this cannot work because of the law of conservation of energy, but also know that no one tried to make a telescope for a crazy long time because Newton said it was impossible (concave/convex lenses were just summarily ignored because of complete dedication to Sir Issac's genius).

is this good or bad for future research into the usage of said EM Drive

Frankly, I'm happy to have the theory and practical demonstrated at the same time.

Its good. Several labs tried to debunk, if you will, EM Drive by experimenting which flipped it on its head. Sort of the science world version of 'if you can't beat'em, join'em". So in failing to disproved, there is proof of something though impossible thus summarily disregarded. Given that it works on the planet, going into a test in space moves things forward, or in the least continues to advance what is know or conversely indicates things that are unknown thus are demanded to be investigated.

Good if it worksas they expect, bad if it functions but doesn't produce thrust, indifferent if it doesn't function.
