That's the question, I guess. I haven't looked into any spoilers for this movie (and I'm under the impression that leaks have been minimal, if any), but I kinda assumed some sort of a New Republic was founded after Ep VI and Ep VII would be some new (Sith?) threat.

The shots of Stormtroopers and Tie Fighters makes it seems like the Empire still exists in some form, decades later, and may still be the prominent antagonist.

Where are expectations on this? Are fans optimistic? Or were they so burned by 1-3, they're expecting the worst? If I were a fan, the trailer would give me some hope. The ceiling might be Harry Potter 6. On the other hand, that sphere robot indicated that they're not getting away from the cutesy stuff.

A few parts look really cool. not really impressed overall though, but it's clear they're trying not to show very much, like you don't see any sets at all, just forest and desert. The millenium falcom shot does not look good. the camera is just randomly spinning around and it's distracting and makes no sense and it just looks bad. The video fx probably aren't finished though.

Was a sweet teaser. Didn't know it was a Christmas movie. Figured it was a summer one.

Disney has Avengers 2 coming out in May and Ant-Man in July.

Its a teaser. Guessing a real trailer comes out next month.

This one really should be the one called "A New Hope".

Both at the same time, if that's possible. I have little faith in Abrams, but I still geeked out for the teaser trailer. The mere sight of the Falcon was enough to grab the attention of my inner six-year-old. It looks like these films might have some soul to them, but it's hard to know anything until we can at least get some snippets of dialogue.

The Millennium Falcon was missing the satellite dish that broke off in the escape from second Death Star. What more do you need to know?!

Very good!

But I have been unimpressed with Abrams' other work, so I am not expecting to like this movie much either. My bet is that it will be a movie that starts out like gangbusters but over time drags out, becomes overlong, with a tension-less finale that slows to a snail's pace at the end. Kind of like the Star Trek movies.

You forgot about the insanely-contrived and over-directed climactic fight sequence.

Been meaning to post this for a while. For any Star Wars fan who hasn't already checked out the Star Wars Rebels series, you need to do so. I've been watching it with my daughter, and it's legitimately fantastic. Easily the best Star Wars TV/movie product since Return of the Jedi. It's on Disney XD, so it has some kid-trappings, but over the course of S1 it grows into a complex show that just happens to be kid-friendly. There are plenty of cameos from familiar faces, but it revolves around brand-new characters, and I genuinely like all of them. The appearance of the characters and technology is taken from Ralph McQuarrie's early drawings, so it fits within the evolution of the SW universe. It also uses sound effects from the original trilogy (e.g., the first time a lightsaber ignites, it's the same effect from when Anakin's lightsaber is ignited at Obi-Wan's house in Ep IV) and uses Williams's score, so it sounds like a SW event.

It's also one of the few things out there right now other than the films that is considered canon, so it's awesome to see the actual nascent development of the Rebel Alliance.

I know I'm kind of rambling, but it's hard for me to speak highly enough of it. I had very low expectations when my daughter and I started watching a few months ago, but it (along with the Tarkin novel, which is fantastic BTW) actually has me excited for the upcoming films. I actually never got through the much of the Clone Wars series, so for me to say that is pretty surprising.

They did four teaser video shorts that really only touch on the depth of the series, but they at least give you a glimpse of something.

I've rather enjoyed Rebels as well. I do feel like it is a bit "kiddie", but it is still watchable and enjoyable for adults. The characters are great and you really empathize with them.

I actually like Star Wars much better when it is in black and white with good and evil sides. Part of the problem with The Clone Wars is that it was tough to really "root" for anyone -- was the Republic army "good" even with future Darth Vader and clone troopers? Were the Separatists "bad" even though they were mostly just a bunch of droids? And it always seemed kinda off having "peaceful" Jedi being generals leading big armies into battle.

Rebels just feels right and I love having more canon stories about the time leading up to A New Hope.
