NLCS Game 4 GDT: HOLY SHIT

Some of the biggest fans of this win have to be the Eagles since no one is paying much attention to their absolute abortion of an effort on Sunday

And even more than that, this board has, somehow, made me even more in love with the Phillies than I was when I started reading the Inquirer sports page every day when I was 7, craving any and all games that I could get on TV (we didn't have Prism, so it was all Channel 17 and Sports Channel for me). I was in love then, obsessed, starved for everything Phillies. And now, my life revolves around the Phillies. And it's because of you guys.

I only mentioned this in passing on the off-topic board, but I was at The Fieldhouse at Market East on Saturday and Darren Daulton came in with a couple other guys. I hyperventilated for about 30 seconds but ultimately decided not to bother him while he was out for dinner. My reaction was like a starstruck little teenage girl who spots Zac Efron or something.

But if I walked down the street tomorrow and saw anyone from the core of the past two seasons' teams, from Eric Bruntlett or Scott Eyre to Ryan Howard or Chase Utley, I wouldn't hesitate to say hello. Because while I was a 7-year-old who looked up to Darren Daulton in the early to mid-'90s, now I'm an adult who appreciated this team more than anything else in the world. It's so crazy that a team, an organization of so many people that I have never met and will never know, can bring so much joy to me, my friends, my family, and you guys. Hell, most of us communicate on this board every day and a lot of us will never meet each other. But we're family. And we're family because of the Phillies. And it's nights like tonight that make me realize why it's all so beautiful.
no offense but you are everything that's wrong with America

I think the Eagles deserve big credit for this. I was in the midst of one of the most hilariously epic 48 hours of bad sports luck until that game. It took something as absurd as a loss to the Raiders to snap it. If it makes you feel better, I'll give you a win in 13 days if that makes us even.

A project for someone with video editing skills: video of the last few bad pitches from Broxton (BB to Stairs, hits Chooch, all pitches to Rollins), edited in with Keyboard cat getting ready to play occasionally - like the Dick Cheney video - followed by THE hit to Rollins, Broxton walking off the field, followed by Keyboard cat's signature tune.

The signature meme of 2009, both baseball-wise and wider culture wise.

Nicely said... I'm proud of this board tonight... we really didn't get too down on things even when defeat was likely... made the victory even better!

part of me feels bad for bowa, wolf, padilla, and thome. they were all here when the phils were morphing into this awesome juggernaut of a baseball team and now they are on the receiving end of that awesomeness.

Many thanks. I like how the call started calmly, but rises throughout to a crescendo that doesn't reach it's top until it's almost over. It sounds disappointing at first, but goes bananas when it starts to register with Franzke that what he saw really just happened.

Also, Eric Bruntlett has now scored two of the most memorable runs in this team's history, and he's one of the worst baseball players ever. I love this game.

I hadn't realized the Phillies had only five hits, none since Wolf had left the game until Rollins' double.

Even Thome's gone Hollywood. Can't wait to see his offseason commercial with Joe Torre.

Jim Thome's never won a World Series. If the Phils wrap this up as they should, Thome's loss will be the only thing I feel bad about. I want him to win more than any non-Phillie in the majors.

I like Jim, too, but I could really care less if he wins anything.

Is that wrong?
