Now that the dust has started to settle and it appears that Ramirez is also coming back to the Phils, I look at it this way (reserving the right to change my mind, of course!):

This is 2 deals in isolation - the Halladay end is so expensive (Drabek/Happ, Taylor, D'Arnaud) because they are sending $6 million to us to defray the salary. That's the way it is - if $$ coming back, the prospect cost goes WAY up. This is the the part that makes it hard to get excited about getting Halladay - it came down to money, and not much money in the scheme of things, which harkens back to the dark days of the Phillies pre-CBP. Also, I think Taylor is a sure-fire star - think John Olerud from the right side - so I find that to be a huge price.

Lee for Aumont, Ramirez and Gillies - without Ramirez, this would be terrible - but with him, seems to be OK. Could they get more elsewhere? Maybe, but it would seem that Aumont =Carrasco, Ramirez isn't much of a drop off from Knapp, and Gillies is more boom or bust than Marson or Donald, but is probably not as much value as those two together. When you add in Francisco, who is solid and controllable for a while and the 1/2 great year and playoffs, we seem to have done OK on the Lee end, though not as great as I might have hoped. The hard part is that we stole him originally and now we've given back that extra value.

Gotta consider that their record is so good because they take no chances - unless it is a slam dunk, they avoid.

But a year of Lee plus 2 draft picks is better than those three. That is the worst part. We have something good and are giving it someone else.

when rube trades blanton and uses the savings with the $6 million from the halladay deal to sign chapman, you'll all be screwed!!!

So basically we lose on both deals?

they aren't in our league so who cares?

because we could realistically play them again in the series

we just traded away our whole team. we aren't making it to the world series again.

We're trading no one from the big league roster ffs

Except for that Lee guy.

Well yeah. I more meant the other pieces. Since the move on the 25 man roster is moving from Lee -> Halladay, saying we aren't making it to the World Series is stupid.

Could everyone stop talking about last years trade? We all know we robbed Cleveland. It's irrelevant to this trade now. You might as well talk about how it's Christmas and the sun is shining so we should all just be happy.

Halladay's negotiations with the Phillies are complete; deal in place. He's taking a physical examination right now.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that maybe ole Rube ain't as cracked up as we make him out to be. A Hamels 2009-like fall from grace.

Is there any chance that Amaro confused JC Ramirez with Felix Hernandez, and is sitting in his office cackling with everyone else too terrified to mention the mix up to him?

This would imply that the "players" involved may not be finalized?

Not really. We're grasping at straws at this point.

Are we really? Because from my vantage point there have been so many different deals thrown out by Media hacks that you're all going batshit over what is really just speculation and faulty logic speculation at that.
