End Game for JPR?

RT @WEEI850AM: the #redsox and #Indians are close to a trade that would send Lee to Boston for Bowden, Reddick and another prospect

In my opinion, I do think the "soft" deadline was real for JPR. The Red Sox rumor floated today was Toronto's last ditch effort to get the Phillies to cave--and they didn't. Nor did they cave at any point in the past few weeks at various other rumored deals/potential suitors. It should be obvious that the Phillies are standing firm and won't budge until at least after Roy's next start. While JPR could wait until after his start on Wednesday night, this would entail the potential for an injury. JPR himself is probably willing to take this chance, but the ownership group of the Blue Jays probably isn't--they want to cut payroll. Deal gets finished tonight/early tomorrow morning and Halladay flies to Phoenix for a start on Wednesday night.

any specific reason?

The Jays sending their head scout to Lehigh tonight.

I think he's there to watch Donald, Marson and Taylor which tells me Riccardi is about to come of his initial offer and find middle ground.

Looks like whoever floated the Red Sox rumor didn't do their homework... apparently, Westmoreland can't be traded (he got some sort of agreement with the Sox in exchange for not opting for college).

LOL! That "story" is blowing up on Gordon like the retired #32 jersey on Carroll. Talk about embarrassing.

The Rangers aren't ready to give up first baseman Justin Smoak, pitcher Derek Holland and outfielder Julio Borbon for Blue Jays pitcher Roy Halladay.

Sources said that's what the Blue Jays were asking for in their discussions with the Rangers.

There are financial parameters that handicap the Rangers but they were willing to put those aside for the moment to see of they could get a deal done with the Blue Jays.

But the Blue Jays have set their sights high and so far the Rangers aren't ready to climb that mountain.

The Rangers have also been asking about Indians pitcher Cliff Lee but there doesn't appear anything on that front either.

If Halladay waived his NTC to go to Texas he can go fuck himself and DIAF.

According to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi has a "gut" feeling Roy Halladay will not be traded.
The Blue Jays are not prepared to lower their asking price. If that remains their philosophy through the July 31 deadline, it's doubtful Halladay is dealt. "It doesn’t matter if it’s today or tomorrow or Friday or next week," Ricciardi said. "Nothing is close. Nothing is happening."

Game over.

Time to overpay for Washburn.
