They've scouted:

Drabek, Brown, Carassco, and now Donald tonight.

They wanted Happ, Drabek, Brown.

We offered Taylor, Brown, Carassco, Donald.

So bascially it looks like they rejected our offer, but NOW are going to scout the guys we offered, seemingly looking like they are accepting the fact that these are the only guys they can get.

Drabek, Brown, Carassco, Donald, ________ For Halladay?

It might be important to note that a couple of people, i.e. reporters including Stark (I think), have said that the Phillies counter was actually stronger than what was being reported.

I tried to stay away but it didn't take. I think we all need an intervention.

I think the one I put out there is a pretty strong offer. That's 4 potential starters in a year or two.

Maybe so but my point was just that we (meaning anybody who has been keeping up with the various rumors, reports, etc.) do not know the offer the Phillies made to Toronto was as stated since some in the media have reported their (meaning the Phillies) actual offer to be stronger than Taylor, Brown, Carassco, Donald.

With that rotation, I can say with confidence that the Phillies wouldn't lose a game for the next 2 seasons

yeah, we could pitch pedro, moyer, blanton and a n other against the mets just to make them feel good, and save the big fellas for the braves, to really rub their poxy smug faces in it.

Ohhh, just thinking about that gets me high on all the potential schadenfreude.

I'm firmly convinced this is what JPR's been angling for all along, with our prospects as a fall back plan. I don't think it's going to happen though. Then again, I'm also pretty sure that right now JPR is describing every action he takes in the third person, prefaced with the phrase 'at this pivotal moment in baseball history ... ' or finishing with ' ... giving further proof to his maverick executive ability.'

The Jays sending their head scout to Lehigh tonight.

I think he's there to watch Donald, Marson and Taylor which tells me Riccardi is about to come of his initial offer and find middle ground.

1. The longer this goes on, the stronger Rubes position becomes as he (JPR) sees we will agressively pursue alternatives.

2. Self-preservation/future gm opportunities. Irregardless of how fans in Toronto view this, other teams/owners will always remember how this thing is playing out. He has to move him now to get the best value. Or he will NEVER be a GM again.

3. It appears...for now that we may really be bidding against ourselves.

Late tonite, after the Pigs play, assuming Donald's knee doesn't explode, this goes down.
