The Phillies immediately answer back to the Yankees' six run inning by scratching out a run of their own. I'll tell you one thing: this team has grit, fire and a never-say-die attitude!

Who would have imagined the Phillies could score that many runs with today's lineup? Imagine what the offense will do when we put our real players on the field?
We now know that Amaro really is running the Phillies. He and Monty seem to have ignored the committee.

Madson had a good outing today, and so did Bisenius. Bisenius is the real deal. Who cares about GOrdon?

Yeah, keeping fingers crossed on Bisenius. Floppy highlighted control as an issue at PhuturePhans, but so far this spring, he's kept the walk beast away. here's hoping it continues and we bring him north.

Are they going to have a "Gettin' Bizzies" fan club for Bisenius?

Smith too. The bullpen should be okay.

Madson, Bisenius and Smith should be fine in my view. I like Germano. Maybe Jim Ed or Simon can come through. Segovia would be a good bullpen guy I think. And there's Castro too.

Alfonseca has hardly pitched and of course we are in the dark regarding Gordon. I worry that this is the year Geary falls off the cliff.

The problem I see with the bullpen is that Alfonseca and Geary are bad but get used a lot in the early part of the year anyway. And that Gordon is hurt and the Phils panic and pay way too much for a "proven" closer.

FWIW (probably nothing), Geary had a good outing today as well. His stuff certainly makes him an over-the-cliff risk, but the guy "knows how to pitch" (an overused but descriptive phrase) and he's gotten better and better as far as walks and HR allowed. He could lose it all in a hurry and I don't think he's really as good as that 2.96 ERA he put up last year, but I'm pretty confident in him as the 7th-inning guy.

The Gordon thing, though, scares the heck out of me, mostly for the reason you suggest. I *don't* relish the idea of trading Segovia for Danys Baez on June 28.

Garcia's out with injury, but we have Lieber!

Ruiz and Coste are down, but we still have Bara-ka-ka-ka!

hadn't heard, how serious and how long is he expected to be out?

I'm really looking forward to seeing him handle the bulk of the catching duties this year.

Thanks

What makes you think he was/is going to handle the bulk of the catching duties?

Maybe it's just me, but I have a feeling that these so-called injuries are just the Phillies trying to lull the opposition. In fact, I believe that Ruiz, Coste, and Garcia are going to come back from these so-called injuries strong than ever.

with hamels back to looking ok today, one could now put together a plausible
10-man pitching staff of guys who have been ok or better to this point:
rotation=myers,hamel,moyer,happ
pen=gordon,madson,bisenius,segovia,warden,brito.
also, smith's era is slowly returning to earth.

i'm pretty excited about what happ, bisenius and segovia have shown this spring, and i'm starting to think that madson is really to return to success. if we can get lieber and garcia healthy our pitching depth should be great.

on the offensive side, rollins obp, for me, outweighs any struggles by anyone else.
