I am with you Dave. I am no fan. Yes it prolongs the races and yes it causes disruption on several fronts, but one and done is pretty harsh. It is not like false starting has reached epidemic propositions. I would even say that it is reasonably uncommon (I do need to fact check this statement at the highest level).

The man who gave his name so this thread could live runs the 200 in about 10 minutes on Universal Sports Network. Just the heats, though, so you wouldn't expect anything extraordinary.

Certainly beats Johnny Dickshot by a mile.

Bolt cruises through his heat and moves on to the semifinals.

Bolt loses to Justin Gatlin in a major meet in Rome.

Gatlin has served two drug suspensions, but I'm sure he's clean now.

Meh. I don't think non-runners and non-swimmers understand how difficult it is to draw any conclusions about a performance three months prior to a goal race. Gatlin has a reason to taper for a race like this, whereas Usain does not. The lack of closing speed also suggests to me that Bolt is probably in a more grueling training period right now.

Just a note to mention that the World Track Championships are going on right now. Usain already won the 100m in a pedestrian (for him)9.77,in a driving rainstorm.

400 meters and 110 meter hurdles today should be highlights.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Usain Bolt, but since this is the "message board of record" and this is the closest thread I could find to one about competitive running, it should be noted that Dennis Kimetto became the first person to break 2:03 for the marathon, running 2:02:57 at Berlin this weekend. The second finisher was also under the old world record. The pace comes to 4:41 per mile for those of you calculating at home.

Shalane Flanagan of the US ran a PR of 2:21:14 to finish third among the women.

That's ridiculous. My fastest time in the 1600m was 4:44, just slightly faster than the pace they ran for over 26 miles. I can't imagine.
