HE STARTED IT!

Read that a little earlier. He definitely has some good thoughts and I think they mostly are obvious. A lot of the worst damage that is done to an arm in a lot of cases occurs way before any issues ever arise.

Yup. When some people were making a big deal about the Verducci Effect and pitcher abuse points and stuff a few years ago, I wrote about this. My theory has been most pitchers damage their arms, or at least go pretty far down the road to arm damage long before they turn pro. I've tried to pay attention to this over the years. It's pretty clear that a lot of young pitchers are just abusing the crap out of their arms.

Throwing a lot is probably a good thing. But you have to do it the right way. I doubt there are many youth coaches who know how to do it.

Kyle Drabek. Didn't he throw like 250 pitches in a few days when his high school team was going for the state championship? He's had two TJs.

Some smart guy should do an extensive study on these TJ guys and try to determine how much they pitched when they were kids. It would probably be pretty interesting.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

A quote from Peter Gammons' article in a recent BA regarding the number of TJ surgeries:
"The strain on tendons and ligaments in physically developing players is a precursor to future problems because of the damage done to the fibers in the ligaments. And that's before they get to some college programs known for abusing pitchers come May and June when winning means money to the coaches."

Really tired of seeing this happen to young pitchers. These guys should not be going to the operating room when they are 21 years old. They need to start figuring out how to stop this from happening.

I wonder if a team figured out what causes it if they would say anything about it. Or if there are teams like that already.
