Austin Dillon (Richard Childress's grandson) won his first career race and the first win for the #3 since Earnhardt.

they had to push his car for victory lap, ballsy go for broke move to skip pitting and lucked out with no cautions last 30-40 laps.

did he win by less time that would have been spent taking the pit stop?? And what it the actual time lost in a pit stop- not just how long the stop itself takes, but decceleration/acceleration; i.e. how much further back are you compared to if you hadn't stopped??

He wasn't close to the fastest car. Only chance he had was to stay out. Busch and truex were probably the fastest guys out there, think they were 12 secs or so behind the leader after they pitted with 30 laps left. Wound up in second third about a second behind the winner.

wow, that's gutsy. He should get a hybrid so he has to make fewer pit stops!

SO, just for my edification now: if those two others came out of their final pit 12 seconds behind the eventual winner, how far ahead of this guy were they right before the stop??

so i'm not huge nascar person here, but i do believe he would have won if there was a caution after his last pit. he continually hopped to the lead after every restart.

so the whole strategy to try to answer the questions from what i understand is that jimmy johnson along with the winner stayed out and had more-worn tires along with less gas so truex and busch who pitted and had gas along with fresh tires were making up about a half to three quarters second per lap - just didn't have enough laps left. busch or martin would have been neck and neck if it went any longer. there was also lapped traffic the guys were dealing with the last handful of laps that had an influence.

since they went to the new playoff system it has changed some strategies. for dillon, a win pretty much locks him into the playoff so he stayed out and gambled for the win. for johnson, who already has two wins, he gambled for the win to add extra bonus points. running out of fuel doesn't really negatively impact him.

SO, just for my edification now: if those two others came out of their final pit 12 seconds behind the eventual winner, how far ahead of this guy were they right before the stop??[/quote]

i tried to find lap by lap data but couldn't find any. johnson and dillon weren't in the top 5 so i'd guess they were a couple seconds behind the leaders. the guys who stay out are trying to conserve as much as possible so they're running slower lap times than the guys who stopped who are going full bore. johnson's crew chief had specific lap times he wanted to hit and they still ran out with 3 laps to go.

He's a lifelong redskins fan and isn't going to drive the Eagles car according to pst. looks like it was the nfl that shut it down though.

Congrats to Martin Truex Jr for his second sweep of stages + race win down at Kentucky on Saturday night.

Not sure what they put in his car but he had a 12-14 second lead for a good portion of the 3rd stage. Caution with 2 laps to go put them in 'overtime' and he still took the checkered flag.

Never been to a race. Got some free Tix from Truex last night for Dover. What should I expect and how early should we arrive?

When I went in June, I used the Park 'n Ride from the Christiana Mall, so it was easy in and easy out. I've heard that it can be a real pain to get out of there. Stands will probably be pretty thinly crowded if it's similar to June. You can take in your own food and beverages, although no glass and the cooler size is limited.

You'll definitely see a few Trumpies, but most people are more into their driver. Maybe 1 in 50-100 will wear Trump crap.
