Would have given Nick Williams a couple chances to pitch yet

Time to move on from Klentak. I’ve been more patient than others over the past few few years, but other than Harper (which seems like it was more Middleton and money than any actual GMing) what good moves has he made? Didi looks good so far, but it’s a SSS and he’s only on a 1 year deal

Signing Gosselin and him getting hot for a few weeks might honestly be a top 5-10 move of his tenure. It's one of only a few good trades or signings that wasn't just outbidding other teams for an established MLB player.
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

It's kind of like Wade though. Drafted all that great talent and just needed Gillick to get them over the hump. Thankfully Klentak has done the same with the minors and they can just find that veteran GM to get them to the promised land.

Top 100 prospects (2): RHP Spencer Howard (28), 3B Alec Bohm (29)

The Skinny: In normal systems, having two Top 30 prospects would mean inclusion in the upper echelon of baseball. Aside from first-round picks RHP Mick Abel and SS Bryson Stott, however, the system’s quality takes a short, sharp dive. Third-round pick SS Casey Martin, who was among the most tooled-up players available in the draft, could give the group a boost with a strong pro debut in 2021, however.

klentak just recently flipped both scouting and development. it's probably going to take a 2-3 years to see the fruits of those moves. i guess you could blame him for failing to correct the shortcomings in those departments first, but a young rookie gm going against well liked and respected professionals is tough. the concept of kapler was a good one, but didn't work out that well here, but think gabe will do good down the road. his major league moves were more misses than hits, did some upgrades to modernize the behind the scenes jobs.

i give him a C- . if someone better comes along i have no problem kicking him to the curb (and no, azrider does not think he is better than him or advocates physical violence in his removal) but i'll wait it out another year or maybe two.

I didn't think I'd be this annoyed in a season that will be looked at as a complete joke for every team, but here we are.

i don't think the system is all that special, but none of these guys have played for almost a year now. who the hell really knows how good or bad it is.

Jay Bruce acquisition looking pretty good. But his victories are few and far between.

Missing on Gowdy in 2016 was huge. That whole draft was poor for a lot of teams, but there have been some productive players. We got zilch out of it.

Some interesting stuff on the Phillies Talk pod, with Salisbury interviewing Ruben Amaro Jr. One was that he had talks with Billy Beane about Brett Myers, but Beane worried Myers wouldn't fully mature until he was too expensive for the As.

Said he also loved the way Nola bore down and got tough outs in the biggest games in college, and that he was confident he had the mechanics and savvy to develop a third pitch.

He also took shots at Chris Young and said he was harmful to Vinny and Eflin in particular.
