I would totally do that if that was the deal, but $40 to just have a cardboard cut out, meh.

The Red Sox are doing a thing where for $500 you get a cutout on top of the green monster and

If your cardboard cutout gets hit by a home run ball, you get an autographed baseball by the player who hit the home run, two 2021 tickets and a custom jersey with your name on it. The gamble, of course, is that the odds of your cutout being on the receiving end of a home run ball seems pretty slim

Steaks says wheeler and his wife welcomed a healthy baby on Monday. He’s still set to pitch Saturday so it will Nola/wheeler/vv/arrieta. Eflin will throw a simulated game tomorrow to see if he’s ready.

The Phillies asked radio play-by-play announcer Scott Franzke if he wanted to travel. Franzke consulted with his road broadcast partner Kevin Frandsen, who tried to get him on board with the idea of renting an RV. Frandsen went so far as securing a driver – his dad. Franzke was intrigued by the concept, until he saw the beginning of the Phillies’ road schedule, which included series against Toronto and Miami.

They're certainly not going to Toronto now.

Every team page on the Athletic has a "bio" and the Phillies' really sums it up well. It's been fun!

The Philadelphia Phillies have lost more games than any professional sports franchise in North America. They were born in 1883 as the Quakers and didn't capture a World Series until their 97th year of existence, in 1980. The Whiz Kids won the National League pennant in 1950, but they were the last NL team to integrate and didn't finish above third place again until 1964. That year, they held a 6.5-game lead with 12 to play and authored one of the most epic collapses in baseball history. It haunted a generation of Phillies fans even after the glory years of the late '70s and early '80s. The boisterous Macho Row squad captured a pennant in 1993 only to suffer one of the most backbreaking defeats on a Series-winning Joe Carter home run. They experienced a renaissance under the deft guidance of Hall of Fame executive Pat Gillick and won five consecutive division titles from 2007-2011. The 2008 world champions enthralled an entire city, but the Phillies have failed to return to postseason baseball since a 102-win season in 2011, which ended in disappointment.

Is Vince Velasquez really our third starter?

They won’t say it but I think it’s more about them wanting him to face the Marlins and Blue Jays instead of the Yankees. It’s a short enough season where that’s a legit strategy.

Clearly written by a Negadelphian.

Too much credit to Gillick, too. Rollins/Utley/Hamels/Howard/Ruiz/Burrell had nothing to do with Gillick. And they represent most of the WAR on the team. Good homegrown talent plus some clever Gilllick additions around the edges. And he got lucky the Dodgers didn't take Victorino back when he offered him.

Yeah very negative I sort of love it in that way. Much better than something bland.

Gillick was dealt a great hand but as you’re seeing with the current team (and Sixers for that matter) that filling in around the edges is tougher than it seems.
