60 Games To Leave Your Bubble: Phillies Thread

Stupid question - Phillies and Marlins players are still being paid based on a 60 game season whether they play 60 games or not, right?

Are games really cancelled this weekend? This is bumming me out.

Well, it affects the other teams who would be playing the Phillies and Marlins who now can't, so there's a bit of a domino effect even if those teams aren't infected. If even two teams are not able to get their games in, it calls into question the validity of an already questionable season.

Sure, it sucks.

I was trying to figure out how we were going to play the Yanks next week, then I saw they moved up the games between the Orioles and Yanks to this week, freeing the Yanks up for early next week. It's crazy. How are we supposed to line up Wheeler for the Mets if we don't even know when we'll play them.

Hopefully there’s games to be played when he’s ready to return in 2022

This is, sadly, not out of the realm of possibility.

So there is effectively three teams in the NL East. Two of which are guaranteed a playoff spot.

He and Robertson would be close to returning if they'd gotten the surgery right away. I get trying to avoid it. Just terrible luck.

Frustrating part is seemingly everyone else is fine.

Gelb mentions that in his latest column:

"There are larger questions now: Will some Phillies players who expressed reservations about playing in a pandemic choose to go home? Will some players decide their careers are jeopardized because their normal baseball routines have been tossed aside? Can the league continue with just 28 teams (without the Marlins and Phillies) for the foreseeable future?"

Quite frankly i'm surprised that it's only this Marlins thing so far. I was expecting multiple outbreaks after the first week.

Just so we’re clear, is the policy now that anytime anyone associated with a team (not just a player) tests positive their games are delayed for an indefinite period of time? Is there even a policy at this point?

Probably the better part of three prime seasons down the drain. Such a shame.
