Probably if the team they played had an outbreak.

I really don't understand why this weekend's games were cancelled. Other teams have had players/coaches test positive and they have proceeded with playing.

What, precisely, are the Phils waiting for at this point?

I mean there is a chance they think some players got exposed and testing wouldn't show positive results yet at this point. I am hoping they did some contact tracing and may have found some interactions with guys that had it. Also didn't the Blue Jays say they wouldn't come to Philly this weekend after the positive tests were announced?

they said the Thurs-Saturday tests would be the ones that are likely to show positives if there are any.

I was surprised they said doctors had signed off on playing Saturday. It takes a while to pop up, which is probably why the Braves mostly escaped the Marlins superspreaders.

We're either going to have great news (no new positives) or it will pretty much be the end for the Phillies/Marlins. I could see MLB wanting the teams to come back in a couple weeks, but no one will feel safe and it wouldn't be fair if one or both were in playoff contention with 12-15 fewer games played.

Thankfully the Flyers and Sixers get going this weekend.

Two non player members of the Phillies have tested positive.

Not really fair to shut down teams either. Maybe they can make up the games by playing 5 inning triple headers. And what happens when another team has an outbreak? Is this season just survival of the fittest? What will winning the World Series even mean? Just shut it down already and put a better plan in place for next season

Guess you're out

Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association have agreed to stage seven-inning doubleheaders starting Aug. 1, sources familiar with the situation tell ESPN. With a number of doubleheaders expected to take place on account of rescheduled games due to current and potential coronavirus outbreaks as well as weather-related postponements, shortening games to seven innings was a compromise that came together quickly.

7 inning games is too wacky for the history books. We gotta asterisk this

The extra-innings runner-on-second rule still will apply in doubleheader games, meaning teams in the eighth inning will automatically start with a runner on second base, sources tell ESPN.
