They already didn't allow a third team to set up shop. I imagine it's being discussed at DOH right now.

And it's not like any revenue is coming to / through the commonwealth as a result of these games being played, with no fans and all.

If I was one of the guys who was publicly on the fence about opting out (Trout, Doolittle, Wheeler, any number of other guys), I'd be furious right now and that might be it for me this year. You put in all these protocols and the only thing standing in your way from getting sick is the Marlins holding a team meeting to play when they clearly have an outbreak. This stuff only works if people take it seriously (and even then there's hardly any guarantee) and there's clearly no teeth whatsoever to anything MLB has put into place.

I can't help but wonder if there was some complacency which could easily lead to 1-2 cases becoming dozens.

It was really a shame to see, honestly. I put that on MLB leadership. Idc how many times they may have emphasized the rules, it clearly was not enough.

Oh man, didn't even think of Wheeler. He must be livid.

Gotta imagine Didi is pretty concerned with his underlying health issues.

I saw Didi in the dugout with the mask pulled down while in close proximity to teammates. There were a LOT of players half-assing it as the series went on. Coaches talking face to face while physically pulling down their masks.

I imagine it would be incredibly difficult to play a sport for 3-4 hours plus warmups on a 90 degree day without literally ever taking your mask down.

If that’s what it takes to not play in a bubble then they need to bubble. It’s not like the nba guys are wearing masks during practices or games.

If you're going to wear a mask, you wear the mask. If you wear it 85% of the time, then why bother? Take it down when you're alone in the outfield sure. Taking it down to talk face to face or in a crowded dugout is just stupid.

The fucking Marlins players being able to fucking vote on whether they fucking play or not is the dumbest fucking thing ever fucking ever. Fuck! I am so so sick of this world going "back to reality" when WE HAVEN'T SOLVED SHIT.
Together we will win this game against the evil Space Yankees! Eat Fresh!

This. As a hospital vendor, I've had to wear a mask for hours at a time. Hospital rooms are like 60 degrees and you're not running around. I went to the zoo yesterday for an hour and had to take multiple breaks with the mask off from just walking.

You read about this Marlins situation, then you literally watch on YouTube what the NBA is doing and it's night/day. NBA spent 4 months implementing protocols and safety measures while MLB spent the same 4 months arguing with the Players Association.

Well there’s evidence that being outside the air breaks up the virus enough that you can’t get enough in your system unless you’re directly exposed for a pretty long period of time.

That said, this just goes back to my point that it’s probably not realistic to ask someone that hasn’t worn a mask all their life to do it for 5 hours straight in 90 degree heat so instead of shaming them they need to find another solution.

It’s not like we actually have evidence yet that Didi or anyone on the Phillies caught it that way, also.
