You now all know I’m Scott Boras.

I remember reading that post and thinking it was a good reminder of the imbalance. That they made an agreement in March on how to handle is even more of a reason for the owner's to bear the cost of additional losses.

This was a fun little video about a player I admit whose name I did not know prior to watching it:

"I'm in a bar with the games sound turned off and that Cespedes home run still sounded like inevitability."

This guy is doing some good stuff. This video on Bonds is well done.

The Gagne AB story is fascinating, but I think it's slightly less impressive than he seems to think it is for two reasons:

1. Just judging by body language, but Bonds doesn't seem to me to be "spitting on" the 0-2 slider; rather, he seems totally fooled by the pitch, and just resigned that the outcome will be whatever it is. Indeed, the pitch is close, and while there is no doubt Bonds would have complained were he rung up on it, nevertheless, again, just reading body language, I think he sort of knows he's lucky he wasn't. He had no chance of hitting it because he had no chance of pulling the trigger on it and had it landed another half inch higher he was a goner. Indeed, it wouldn't have been outrageous were it called - I am not sure it isn't, in fact, a strike.

2. And then after that, by way of the gentleman's agreement and the game situation, he knows he no longer has to concern himself with it even down 1-2. Sure, Gagne is pumping in 100+ MPH fastballs, but hitters - all hitters - look bad on those at least in part because they know they must simultaneously be prepared for whatever the "other" off speed pitch is from the pitcher. Take that away and let them gear up, and even 100MPH will look less intimidating. Granted, 100MPH is still 100MPH, but the false comparison the video is making, implicitly, is suggesting that Bonds is a god and all other players are Joe Schlabotnik. Bonds was the best of the best, no doubt, but if you took the top 10 hitters of any era and stood them in there and said "All you need concern yourself with is the fastball," the chances for the hitter would improve tremendously, even against 100MPH.

That said, Bonds was still other worldly, and this video is fun.

I was thinking this morning how in any other year I would be immersed in Baseball, following the major league team, reading the boxes for all four Phillies full season minor league teams, following the signings of a 40 person draft class, thinking about the assignments to the short season teams. This whole thing just sucks. F these owners who can't figure out how to step up and do the right thing for the f'n country.

from my point of view, i am not going to invest too much emotionally into this dispute or even in any season for any sport until you can pretty much guarantee me that a few infections won't immediately shut down the entire league. i would love for sports to start, just not holding my breath. under normal circumstances i might be upset, but these are far from normal circumstances.

More MLB bullying news: I'm hearing that a couple MLB teams are trying to require newly drafted players to sign 2021 contracts instead of 2020, as would be customary. Why? It would give them an extra year of control, essentially turning 7 yr contracts into 8 yr.

Unreal.

Not that I am defending the clubs/owners at all here but would any of these guys even be able to play in 2020 anyway?

Is Heyman tweeting that the owners and players are "closing in" on a deal? I don't know myself because Heyman blocked me when I called him Scott Boras's burner account 15 months ago.

Heyman:

Breaking: MLB and players union are closing in on an agreement to play the 2020 season, via players. Deal expected to be for prorated pay and include expanded playoffs.
Yes son. I'm the best mono-thingy guy there ever was.
