Unless they are bluffing so that other teams feel like they have to trade for or claim him and take the contract, Phillies leaking to the beats that they outright him to the minors. I know I'm in the minority but I'd keep him in the minors and see if he can build up some value back. He's not much of a distraction if he's never in the major league camp.

is it:
1. Phillies have 7 days to trade him
2. Then he goes through waivers where some team could claim him
3. If not claimed, he either accepts an assignment to AAA (and gets paid his contract) or refuses his assignment and the Phillies are off the hook?

In 2017 he was an MVP candidate. He was replacement level in 2018, worse in 2019. Has a lingering shoulder issue. I'd love to see him bounce back, but I think he's cooked due to the injury.

Indeed. But I think, looking at his numbers before 2017, that 2017 was a severe outlier.

Really? I never saw that anywhere? What I read is that we couldn't cut him from the roster for non-baseball reasons. And we didnt.

This is all just procedural to get him to the minors. Nothing has changed other than he probably won't even be in ST. Obviously no one is claiming him or trading for him. I still expect him to be "next man up" as soon as Hasley/Quinn get hurt or suck.

Phillies can DFA him or release him they just have to pay him what he’s owed unless some other team claims him or whatever.
