Random Baseball News/Discussion: Heading into the 2020s

I think baseball could be alright with a lot of pumped in sound in lieu of fans... basketball I think could be ok... kinda like watching lesser versions of midday summer league games with better talent... football would be the one I have a hard time thinking works without fans
Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response

Mic em up and have them play in a quiet stadium. That'd be great tv.

Baseball America@BaseballAmerica
MLB and MiLB negotiators are expected to reconvene on a conference call tomorrow.

The expectation?

MiLB will indicate that they agree to a reduction 120 affiliated teams in a new PBA.

Big news, via @jjcoop36:

There was a great article on The Athletic about Williamsport. It’s been the closest affiliate to me for years, although since we’re in Shamokin it’s probably equal between there and Reading. Love the ballpark, you feel so close to the action, it’s a historic site, and I’ll be sad to lose the Crosscutters.

Trying not to be pissed. I get that it’s out in the middle of nowhere. But there’s definitely people hungry for baseball there. I think that they are shooting themselves in the foot.
Together we will win this game against the evil Space Yankees! Eat Fresh!

Jeff Passan column about pretty much everything

Some of the short season ideas could be pretty neat, even with no fans. Glad to see MLB is actually keeping an open mind, even to the point of having a World Cup style tournament instead of a season if necessary.

Collective bargaining is gonna get ugly with cheap owners and rich, superstar players both encountering resistance from their own groups in addition to the opposite side.

Minor league situation is depressing, but not sure there's a good solution.

Pretty sure that, when the dust settles, MLB teams will directly own most, if not all, MILB franchises.

Unfortunately, I think you're right, as that seems to be the goal.

Having not studied up on it all, it's not inherently obvious why that would be a bad thing.

GALE NIGHTENBOB says 100-game season, starting no later than July 2, played in home stadiums with a realigned league is the plan being considered. MLB is "optimistic" about the timeframe.
