Random Baseball News/Discussion: Heading into the 2020s

Saw this going down a b-r Rendon rabbit hole, the top of the 2011 draft was pretty amazing:

1. G. Cole
3. T. Bauer
6. Rendon
7. Lindor
8. J. Baez
11. G. Springer
14. Jose Fernandez
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

And Story and Sonny Gray and someone else I think in the supplemental 1st, and we got Larry Greene :)

In the 2011 draft, the Phillies pick, #33, went to Texas as comp for Cliff Lee. The Rangers took Kevin Matthews who is out of baseball.
#34 went to the Nats for Brian Goodwin who is now with the Angels. #35 went to the Jays and they took Jacob Anderson; #36 went to Boston- Henry Owens; #37 went to Texas-Zach Cone; #38 went to Tampa Bay-Brandon Martin. I think that all of these selections are out of baseball as is #39 LGJr who was the Phillies section. Just a tough draft year.

they had a super easy pick there with jackie bradley jr. he was a top 10 prospect coming into the season and dropped because of a down year with some injuries. it was awesome he fell to them when their first pick was that low. couldn't believe they passed on him. think the red sox got him with the next selection.

He was the next pick, and then Trevor Story went 5 picks later.

Some of these are just going to look cooler (or at least less obvious) than others. Frankly, the Phillies' looks to be pretty bad.

18 million probably made it a little easier to pass.

Especially when the Phillies reportedly only offered $9M.

So, in the end, you really could argue that the Phillies did land the most realistic upgrade for them in Wheeler.

Strasburg signing (at 7 for $245M) seems to suggest that Rendon's gone too.

Us, the Royals, and Rangers have the swoosh so close to the first letter in the team name it looks like an accent.

also, looking at that, we are the only team that has a straight team name. all the others are curved, on the left pocket, or at an angle.

Couldn't they have at least put the swoosh on the arm? Looks stupid as fuck right on the front of the jersey on an off angle like that

I stand corrected. This was a "modern era" vet's committee vote. Richie will be on the "Golden Era" ballot next year. Didn't think that Simmons played into the late 80's as I always picture his 1970 Topps card, so I figured he was golden era. My bad.
