Phillies 2019 Discussion III: The Dog Days of Bummer

I'm ok with Nola as the one, Arrieta as the four and Eflin as the 5... sign Hamels as the three and all you need to do is trade for or sign a two... easier said than done I guess... commit to Velasquez as a 7-8th inning guy... Keep Neris and hope Seranthony is healthy ... get another proven arm or two back there... start Howard and Medina with the Iron Pigs... dump Pivetta
Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response

Olney has the Phillies as the first team listed to give Gerrit Cole a buttload
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

Nola/Cole/Cole/Arrieta/Oddjob seems like a decent plan

If it weren't for blowing a 7-0 lead, giving Nola no support and a Bourjos slide, we'd have a six game win streak and would have won 10 of our last 12 games.

Kingery been hanging out with the Sizzlers apparently.

Meghan Montemurro
Kapler described Kingery’s abdominal issue as gastrointestinal and not muscular so he’s expected to be OK.

This is where I am. Bringing Chole back feels like a near lock at this point considering their need for stopgap pitching and their love for fan service transactions. And of the big-time free agent pitchers over the next couple years, Gerrit Cole feels like the best buy of the bunch. I'd rather pay top-level prices for a true elite starter rather than screw around chasing #2 or #3 types if given the choice, with Arrieta being something of a prime example in that respect.

Ideally you'd have Howard ready to come up around the middle of next year when one of those mid-late 30's guys inevitably goes on the shelf.

I think the most likely outcome is Cole stays in Chicago. And Klentak has no real attachment to Cole. If the Phils get him it's probably because Middleton forces him to make a big dumb offer at the start of free agency.

Santana, Harper... Hamels is next on John's list.

Agree, I think the time to have acquired Chloe was last year, when Texas was dumping him on an expiring contract with a team option. He'll be two years older at the start of next season, has put up good numbers in Chicago and has spent some time on the DL. Don't want to overpay for him now on like a 3 year deal.

At this rate the Nats might end up taking their foot off the pedal for three or more of those games with us at the end of the season

could see him coming back here for like 1/11 if they are going to live here moving forward.

Braves too. Nothing really scary about the schedule. It's the enemy within that could fell us

Does Xfinity charge? They didn’t when I went a few years ago.

Maddon sure, Scioscia absolutely damn not, but both of them can fuck off for angling for another guy’s job while he’s in the middle of a playoff race.
