OK, I am mostly playing with you because this world series, first use of the term, was a football championship. As insane, the millionaires and their toys mindset comes to play because indeed the owners of baseball teams, including the Philadelphia A's and Phillies, started up teams in the NFL version 1. These owners also used their baseball players to fill out the roster! No kidding.
The world series was also landmark because it was played indoors. Seriously, check the link, it was hosted inside of MGS in NYC. The Philadelphia Phillies were in a very short lived league.
Information is pretty scant, but this page, one of few, seems fairly stable.
EDIT: I've been looking for this off and on for a few weeks. All I needed to do was publish a post to find the right source. This is about the history of the league and what went on specifically in Philly.
