Don’t know anything about tennis but IMHO making this a gender issue is a fucking joke

I think that a lot of things can be right at the same time and this issue itself probably was not a race/gender issue as she was wrong and she deserved the coaching violation and the automatic point deduction. She also did not deserve the game deduction.

She also has had numerous interactions with officials, especially at this tournament, some her fault, some not over the years that has primed her to react this way. There also are differences in how the players can treat the referees by gender that should be addressed. All of this can be true.

Why not use female umpires for women's matches and take the possibility of gender inequality out of the equation? Seems like a simple fix.

Did Serena not play against a woman in her match? It seems like she is trying to make this into a gender issue when it has been proven that this umpire has done similar things to men. In fact the USTA came out and re-affirmed the decision by Ramos and he will not be disciplined in any way.

Serena had a run in with a female line judge in a previous US Open where she threatened to " "I swear to God I'll fucking take the ball and shove it down your fucking throat."'

I agree, i'm not excusing her behavior. She deserved what she got. My point was just a way, going forward, to eliminate any suspicions of impropriety.

She also told a female umpire that she was "unattractive inside" in another previous confrontation.

My wife asked me last night if the things that makes players great is also the same thing that makes them assholes sometimes. ("How should I know!" is what I should have said). Probably.

I don't know, they had a female chair umpire in the Mens Match. I think it would be a step back to the sport if men and women didn't judge/officiate both women and men's matches.

Not sure I've heard of a sexism claim by any other player in tennis with something on the court outside of this one crazy incident.

I'd actually believe her claim more if it was a claim that the chair umpire was jealous of her greatness or something like that but not because she is a woman on the court.

I was going to post that tennis is for sissies, but after reading the last few pages, perhaps this is a bad time.

wow - that's awesome. Looked early on like Tiafoe would make too many unforced errors to hang with Anderson. I haven't kept up with the young Americans but apparently Tiafoe (about to turn 21) is one of 3 up & comers for the USofA.
