I forgot the part where we traded Lehtera for Schenn straight up. It seems Flyers BSG fans get on very specific crusades (trade G, Schenn is the antichrist, trading Schenn was the gravest mistake!).

Mathew Strome (57th in OHL Scoring): 8G, 8A in 17 games (had a 6 point weekend)
Connor Bunnamen (66th in OHL Scoring): 11G, 4A in 17 games (had a 2 point weekend)
Maksim Sushko (69th in OHL Scoring); 9G, 6A in 16 games (had a 1 point weekend)

I didn't mean it as a comment on the Schenn trade, I was just legit excited to see that we had a bunch of guys who had big weekends.

You seem to look at the Schenn trade piece by piece, and not in the whole. It's fine to argue that the return wasn't great, but we did get a promising winger in Frost, another prospect down the line, and some cap relief in Lehtera (one less year, and a slightly smaller contract). Also, getting rid of Schenn led to Coots on the front line, which I think we should all be able to agree is a success (minus the Coots sucks regardless crowd and the trade G contingent).

I was generally in support of the Schenn deal, but on the flip side of what you're saying, did they really need to trade him? They have so many low-cost guys coming through on defense, plus Patrick and Konecny up front. The salary cap relief thing seems a bit overblown at this point, and I'm not really sure I bought that when they dealt him. They were getting someone who had a similar number and one fewer year. I think the trade was more for the picks. Judging it on that... not sure what to say on that yet. Guess we have to wait.

No need to wait. 18 games in and we know this was a travesty of a trade

lets look at the whole deal then. lehtera sucks and schenn is good. the cap relief argument is dumb imo. who cares when the gap between the players is so vast. the last time hextall made a similar trade the cap savings bought...dale weise? clearly the flyers team is worse with lehtera in place of schenn.

so then it comes to the draft picks. i like morgan frost just fine. i asked this question before and i don't believe anyone ever responded, what is your best case scenario for morgan frost? do you think he'll be able to produce 55-60 points by the time he's 22? that's my best case scenario and that would mean he'd replace schenn's production four years from now.

i could even buy into the deal some if i thought it was some part of a youth movement. that's negated a bit by the fact that schenn was only 25. they've kept morin down in place of macdonald. signed elliot instead of going with lyon. it doesn't appear they've tried to move g, jake or simmonds. if they don't think schenn is part of the next contender, neither are the three of them.

the team is thoroughly mediocre again and mostly boring to watch. they seem pretty content to stay there. the other 3 teams in town are young and exciting, so there isn't much focus on the flyers. i think hextall should be thankful for that because he's not doing a very good job.
