2017-18 Flyers Season II: Rookie Ds and Upper-Body Injuries

I'm conflicted. I am completely tired of changing Flyers coaches. But I'm also convinced that Hakstol is a big part of the problem.

I got so excited, then read your last sentence and it makes too much sense because it would make no sense.

Konecny and Ghost haven't played poorly but they are not playing up to expectations and, at times, are making silly plays.
The bigger issue is Simmonds, Filppula, Weal and Lehtera are each at -4. Plus/minus isn't the best figure for evaluation but it quickly shows that, for whatever reason, they're not doing well. It's a young roster that Hakstol has and these older guys need to pitch in better than they are. On defense, Manning, Gudas, Ghost and Manning are having tough seasons.
Hextall isn't going to fire Hakstol two years into a huge rebuild. You can bet that Hakstol had some guarantees made to him in order to get him to leave ND and come to Philly. That is one of the best college hockey jobs in the country. Some players will be moved instead of Hakstol being fired. Actually Hakstol has done well bringing along the young defenseman. Provorov, Hagg and Sanheim have all shown that they will be solid NHLers under his coaching.

two goals and two assists tonight for the leading scorer of the best team in the nhl.

What does Schenn do for this team? Move is from shitty, fringe playoff team to mediocre, fringe playoff team?

I am of the belief the organization should retain their good, young players not trade them away. I feel it would make the team better now and in the future.

Now, yes, but probably barely. If I had more confidence in this team being a Cup contender in the three years Schenn had left, then I would agree with "in the future" but I feel like we're in a shitty grey area until/unless our prospects hit (especially Carter Hart, with Lyon not looking good and Sandstrom hurt).

It's stunning on many levels.

He's been absolutely awful and either gets a pass or nobody cares. The product he has put on the ice is unwatchable trash that makes the Craig Ramsey-era look like 1987 in terms of excitement.

Maybe he has CTE.

If you think this team won’t be competitive for another 4 years then Hextall is doing worse than I’m giving him credit for. No reason a guy like Simmonds is on the team this year then.

Not the only problem but, after starting the season 8 for 33 (24%) on the PP, the Flyers are 5 for their last 38 (13%). Similarly, after starting the season 24 of 30 (80%) on the PK, the Flyers are 33 of their last 45 (73%). Their PP ranks 19th in the league (18%) and the PK ranks 28th (76%).

Goaltending and special teams. Seems like we fans have been harping on those two topics for the better part of 25 years.

We have the young talent on Offense and Defense where it's possible, but I will never bank on us solving our goalie situation. It's hard to tell how far along the process is until someone like Hart or Sandstrom see time in the NHL.

Also there is competitive and there is cup contender. I think we're pretty close to being a playoff lock talent wise, but w/out the goalie, I can't see our ceiling above being a lower seed/first round exit.

I love Lappy, but he should not be a coach. Our PK has been abysmal under him.
