Roy Halladay Passes Away in Gulf of Mexico Plane Crash

Header is terrific... great tribute... how surreal is to think that when we woke this morning that we'd see Cole Hamels sitting in a Phillies press room talking about Roy Halladay's sudden death... life is so unpredictable
Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response

I'm not sure how or why Cole did that but I'm grateful that he did.

He still lives here in the offseason.

Twitter statement would have been fine, but for him to come to this was really exceptional especially so soon after. Thanks Cole

Nice that his wife came as well. It was good to hear him speak for everyone.

He did. Glad they all were able to keep it together and put words to it.

thought rosenthal's piece was great
“We had heard about him flying his planes when he was in Toronto, flying his toy planes around the stadium before everyone got there,” Rollins said. “Then he came over to us and he had toy helicopters. If you wanted one, he’d buy it for you, personally purchase it. It became a pretty expensive habit.

“A third of the guys in the clubhouse had helicopters and were flying ‘em. Like Roy, they started getting to the field earlier just to get ‘em up in the air. They would have races around the stadium, in the clubhouse. It was dangerous. You went in there and had these novice pilots flying helicopters and crashing them into everybody. But in the clubhouse it was like relief. His passion was infectious.”

Feel so empty right now, loved Doc, feels wrong knowing he's gone.

:ce:
(Brandy) only hinted at Halladay's personal issues during her Hall of Fame speech last July, when she said, "Roy would want everyone to know that people are not perfect. We're all imperfect and flawed in one way or another. We all struggle."

This hurts even more so because I was looking forward to seeing more of him during alumni weekends, maybe spring training instructing the boys, etc.

Our time with him as a player was so brief but you felt better knowing that he'd be part of the Phillies family for a long time.

This really sucks.

Lost in the excitement and disappointment of Election Day for me was this news. Was glad to be busy because otherwise I would have been irrecoverably sad. Trending in that direction now.

Oh no, no, no, Doc. You will be missed. RIP.

I'm seeing the same header as always. Do I need to do something to see the new one?

I'd assume you'll need to clear your cache (fwiw, I only see it when using a different browser).

One thing that makes this very hard is that we entered 2017 with 2 living world champion managers and 2 living perfect game pitchers. We lost 3 of those 4 individuals this year, and also lost a 3x All-Star from the 1993 team. 2017 really sucked from a fandom perspective.

Thanks, I used a different browser and that worked. Really nice tribute.

Hard to believe he was only 40. Taken from all of us way too young.

I just watched the clips of that playoff no-hitter. It was like there was a sense it was coming from everyone the whole time.

His face coming off the mound each inning is so great.
