Oh hell yes
It is OK to shift up 7-0 but obviously not OK to bunt against it down 7-0, duh Swish!swishnicholson wrote:Sometimes baseball drives me nuts. Twins are butt hurt because an Orioles rookie bunted against the shift when his team was down 7-0 in the ninth. I still wouldn't agree, but would understand, if the Twins' pitcher had a no-hitter going, but that wasn't the case. If there's an unwritten rule out there that you should quit playing to win at some point, they need to unwrite it, um, write it down and erase, uh, whatever one does to get rid of an unwritten rule.

I think the shift has officially jumped the shark.
Stop making your players move around the field for every goddamn hitter.

THE MAGIC NUMBER: .197
WHAT IT MEANS: If you’re a left-handed hitter who pulls a ground ball these days, that’s your chance of reaching base, either via a hit or some sort of fielding mishap. That number is about 40 points lower – yessir, 40 points – than it was as recently as 2011, according to Sports Info Solutions.

Perhaps we could draw boxes on the field, and make the players stand in them. Like the coaches.
While I'd like to see the catchers box enforced nothing quite that stringent. One simple rule - the fielders must position themselves with both feet on the customary side of 2B until the pitch is released.

Agree. The shift is awful.
