Phillies @ Dodgers NLCS Game 3 Threat

Postby CFP » Mon Oct 13, 2008 00:08:59

Well, just get 'em tomorrow. A lot of really stupid at-bats tonight. Too much swinging when ahead in the count. More patience tomorrow please. And better pitching.

On a good note, aside from off Moyer who had one of his worst starts ever, the Dodgers only scored 1 run the next 7 innings and that was off Happ who hasn't pitched since I don't know when. We only scored two but still.

So this game wasn't too great.

I was over there near the RF foul pole. I saw the security guards rushing around several times but never saw what happened.

I had many different Dodger fans come up to me apologizing for the behavior of the fans in general. I didn't have anything happen to me except for people coming right up behind me shouting at me right behind my head.

I'm really irritated right now. My wife doesn't really want to go back to see a game at Dodger stadium again.

God I really hate these fans. I take back my previous hypothesis that there was some kind of cultural thing going on. These were just assholes who were showing everyone that they were assholes. It's going to make the clinching of this series that much better.

It sounds like I'm lucky I missed hearing the broadcast.

Don't know who, and I couldn't say if he was serious or being facetious, cuz I wasn't in the room.

It was Steve Berthiaume, and he was being facetious. If I recall correctly, he's mocked the type of people who say stuff like that before (I think he's a bit of a stat-head, perhaps).

After last night, I'd really think twice about taking my wife to Dodgers stadium in Philly gear, unless I was with a big group. The idiot Dodger fans are possibly the worst of any fanbase I've ever seen, which is a shame, because the majority of Dodger fans are great, baseball loving folks. There were some scary moments last night- I had to be vigilant just to get out of the stadium in one piece.

What shirt were you wearing last night? I luckily was in the last row so I never had to have the attention of the section while returning to my seat. I had a good view of all of the other Phillies phans (there seemed to be a lot of them) in the sections around the RF foul pole. Maybe I saw you there.

I don't mind the screaming and taunting if it is done in a fan-fan joking around way. From my other games at Dodger stadium I thought this is what was going on. However, I realized that for the ones doing most of the screaming, they were on the edge of violence the whole night. I felt that there were moments where a spark was going to turn things into a brawl.

I realize that this behavior is not that different from what sometimes happens in other settings, including Philly. The thing that annoys me is how often Philly is discussed as the place where this is the signature behavior of fans while other cities are given a free pass no matter what their fans do. I had several different people come up to me and apologize for the behavior of the fans. One said that he wanted me to know that there were good Dodgers fans so that I would tell that to people in Philly.

And yes there were plenty of empty seats as the game was starting and people were leaving early. But this is probably only 10% of the fans. I couldn't say that the other 90% were any less enthusiastic about the game than fans in Philly would be.

The only other significant difference is that they don't seem to be able to boo their own players. Juan Pierre got a nice hand in the pre-game introductions. Morons.

I probably won't be going back with my wife again. Not sure if I'll go back again anytime soon. I feel like I might as well use my money for a flight to Philly to watch them play in CBP.

I had my 80's style powder blue Utley jersey on, and 1949 style blue Phillies cap on. Section 48, Row N.

Yeah, I saw you. I was in 48 row X. I remember thinking that the hat-shirt combo looked pretty good together.

If the Phillies win tonight and have a big lead with Hamels pitching well in Game 5, I might get in my car and drive to Chavez Ravine and celebrate the end of the game in the parking lot. Although it would be impossible to get into the parking lot with all of the cars streaming out.

umm if you were going to go to the game dont let those fans heckling you stop you.

never understood anybody backing down from doing something because of other people. there is wanting to avoid conflict which I understand and then there is just plain being a kitty cat.

If Victorino has a choice between sliding into home and running over Russ Martin, I'm fairly positive he'll try to put a hurting on Martin.

Trust me- I'm not suggesting that I will stop going to games because of heckling. As long as there is no threat of physical violence, I don't even mind the heckling.

I was just stating that if I was presented the oppurtunity to go to a game with just my lovely little wife, I would not put her in position (by loudly announcing my allegiance to my team) where she might be part of the heckling/ things getting tossed at her/beers getting dumped on her- it would turn her off to going to sporting events forever. And that would suck.

I said this to my brother last night as we were watching the events unfold.
"I tell all kids not to use that word. If they're 29 and they win the World Series, I think they can say that.
But I definitely would say to all the kids out there, 'Kids, it's a bad word. Don't say it. And I'm dead serious.' "
