Merrill butchers a lot of calls honestly, I've learned from watching the Merrill Cam stuff. Honestly, is he even a good announcer? I thought so growing up but maybe he isn't. Yes I understand this is sacrilege, particularly one day after the Super Bowl. Just from watching that Merrill Cam stuff though I got the sense he couldn't pick up on identifying guys right away. Is that a problem for all football announcers? How far away are they?

I also understand he's not exactly young anymore either.

Merrill sucks but I do think he used to be better. He is 75 and you usually don't get better at this stuff when you get to be that age.

watching the replay, 4th quarter, 33-32 Pats, Eagles driving late, 2nd down, Chung makes an open field tackle on Clement 1 yard short of the first. 3rd down, a behind the LOS pass to Torrey for a loss. 4th down call, no hesitation, sidesteps a defender and lofts it to Ertz just past the marker. Keeps the season alive. This whole sequence seemed nonchalant

It happens to all of em - eventually. Harlan's was the best.

Can't move on from Merril right now - but I'd be open to a new guy in a year or three - Mike Quick is no Stan Walters either...

Merrill and Quick signed a 7 year extension in Nov. Or at Least WIP did so I think they will be around for a while.

I started with Bill Campbell and By Saam - i remember when Harry - was the new guy. Merril's was fine in the 70's and 80's - I felt Merril was great through the Buddy era - been a slow decline since then.

scorching take but I have to agree. Never really bought into it. I get the affection and him being the soundtrack to the eagles. his calls on these two - for a team he is way more familiar with than those that do this for the big game - was uniformly less coherent and satisfactory than any of the other calls.

Maybe it is his pairing with Quick. Quick basically beats him to what is actually happening 75 percent of the time it seems.
