He thinks it's a failure of the woman not pleasing her man enough. Simple misogyny.

I bet Hillary was a tiger when she was young. She was attractive, confident, etc.

I fucking hate this guy.

Talking heads are saying he had a great first 30 minutes...? Did they watch? He rambles about NOTHING.

Why are they not talking about how he believes he is smart for not paying federal taxes or that HE DOESN'T PAY FEDERAL TAXES. Or how he is proud of stiffing people who worked for him or he contracted. Or how he called it "business" when hoping for and taking advantage of the housing crisis.

He did great though. Really he behaved in constantly interrupting and throwing his hands in the air like a chil. Oh an did you hear, he didn't make fun of his opponent's married life. He wanted to! He could have! But he didn't it. Great temperament. The greatest.

Are you watching Fox News? The consensus I'm seeing says Trump held it together for 15-20 mins and then went off the rails, really going overboard starting with the birther thing.

It is half the spin his people are putting out and half media. I mean one of the faces of MSNBC said she was TOO PREPARED.

IRT the contractors thing, loved his "Maybe they didn't do a good job" line followed by a smug as fuck shrug.

Morning Joe just did do a montage of the contractor, taxes, and housing crisis thing. They barely talked about it. Joe said woah, basically. Minka thinks those things resonate with people. People are fucking awful, if that is close to true. Those things need to be turned into an advertisement somehow.

i would assume at the next debate she will bring up his making fun of a disabled reporter.

i would hope she continues to largely stay above the fray and tout her plans. she has lots of 'em and this is free airtime to explain them. a lot of people are saying she sort of lost the first part, and i don't think that was the best in comparison to the rest of the debate, but that was the part where she sort of explained what she was about. it's hard to debate a guy who just lies and lies and lies.

get her into office and hold her (and Congress') feet to the fire to follow through.

I don't know if this is a thing he harps on his rallies (seems like he more stumbled into it), but I guess this will be the main attack now.

Hillary did a good job pointing out the effects that has on infrastructure, schools, veterans, etc. But Democrats at large need to do much much more there imo -- describing what slashing taxes would actually mean and what "government" actually is.

Same thing with the debt. Not only what got us there but what is really driving it. My father in law shuts up pretty fast when I suggest cutting the military or Medicare.

she was the first lady of Arkansas 30 years ago and was a lawyer for the Children's Defense fund prior. What was she supposed to have done? I guess it's a good line but there's no actual substance behind it. I guess that may not matter to those swayed by it, though.

If you ever had CHIP, she was behind that! Why am I a better spokesperson for her than she is?! argggghhh

I thought his start (maybe 15 minutes?) was good. He was composed, direct, and spoke to people's fears about the economy. When he was speaking about companies moving their jobs overseas, and then pushing his framing of NAFTA as bad for the middle class... yeah it was populist, sure. But it resonates with a lot of people, and it has enough truth in it to make it difficult to effectively counter.

The problem is that she's a woman. If she aggressively responds to his attacks, then she increases the likelihood of being called bitchy. She took the higher road last night, which meant that she left a lot of stuff on the table. Personally, I couldn't believe that she didn't zing him for outsourcing his ties, etc. to foreign countries when he's criticizing NAFTA.

As for him, I was stunned at how many times he missed very obvious openings. I had a mini panic attack when she mentioned (in response to the stamina dig) sitting before a Congressional panel for 11 hours. Granted, the email server and Benghazi weren't the only times that the Secretary of State testifies to Congress, but holy shit that was an alley oop pass that even a high school debater would've slammed home. Yet Trump was so flustered and so tired by the end of the debate that he missed it completely.

I remember him rambling about trade (his only solution to fixing the economy). He doesn't know how he will get the jobs back but he will stop them from leaving, trust him. That was the only "point" he made in the first 15 minutes. So, great job by him.

Does it? I honestly don't know how many people under 40 have even a passing knowledge of NAFTA at this point for that to hit home. Seems like the anti-NAFTA people are already solidly in his corner.

I agree that he didn't soil himself in the first 15-20 minutes, but I also didn't hear anything that wasn't playing to his base. The undecideds or slight Hillary leans need to hear actual ideas to be swayed. He just pointed out problems.

He didn't follow up on her private email apology/explanation, either, because he couldn't help but try to refute something else she said.
