Yeah that was quite bad. It was rightfully removed and if he wanted to sue Gawker, he had all the means in the world to do it. The discussion about Thiel using his considerable wealth to dismantle a journalism outlet goes beyond their worst transgressions. It's short-sighted to say 'here are the worst things they did. they deserve to be sued to death by a billionaire 3rd party because he didn't like them'.

this has been discussed before, but they did several good things. and yes, they also mentioned that the already publicly gay Thiel was gay. it isn't a privacy violation to out someone who is already out. He didn't like this so he funded a bunch of lawsuits against them that they couldn't have the money to properly defend to get them shut down.

I hate to pop in on this discussion, but the question (in my mind) is whether an unethical news organization deserves to operate with impunity. Maybe you say yes, I don't know. But Gawker is unethical with low to no journalistic standards. And they publish stories that open themselves up to liability. If they wanted to be a real news organization, they should have applied some journalistic standards. Then their liability wouldn't threaten their business.

In my first post on the topic I did state I would assume they'll have more guidance (read: editorial influence) when they re-emerge under Univision's umbrella.

no, i don't think they should be be able to operate without impunity, and they did create standards eventually...but the threat (and execution) of endless lawsuits being funded would not strike me as a fair outcome to that. There are plenty of journalistic outlets that have no integrity that have existed for years and years. Many of them are quite popular. Destroying Gawker in a rather specious manner didn't get rid of that.

It was one of those Amy organic deals. Didn't say tofu anywhere on the front of the can and had what looked like meat chunks in the photo.

Tastes like a whopper wrapped in a flour tortilla. It's not going to revolutionize the industry as many expected. As stated before it needs fries inside the thing. What its major strength is the ability to eat one quite cleanly behind the wheel of your car.
