No one chased him away, he was acerbic and couldn't take people disagreeing w/ him. He would take some asinine comment he read on Reddit or in YouTube comments and relate that to the entire fanbase and call us the worst fans.

the chase away thing was a joke. i mean, that's pretty much what he did with everything. sometimes it was funny, but it did get grating at times. still going to miss him.
