I tried to make fly fishing my hobby this summer. I really sucked at it. I am a pretty good fisherman but it was an embarrassing experience, I lost lots of flies.

Guy who was helping me makes all of his own flies and puts a lot of time into it. I probably wasted a year of his life in a few days. All our best trout streams have trees everywhere.

That's probably the way to do it. I just assumed it wouldn't be too hard to pick up with help from someone good but to learn you'd almost have to fully trained I think. I just tried to copy moves but there is so much that goes into it. I like fishing with rooster tails or just chucking and waiting better I think.

If I was good at fly fishing I am sure I would love it.

My dad is an avid fisherman. He used to take me out some days for 6 or 7 hours and would complain that he couldn't stay longer when I asked multiple times if we could go home. I was fucking 7. Now he wonders why I hate fishing.
