Of all the FF burger joints, Wendy's smokes 'em. A Wendy's burger is about as good as 5 Guys or Shake Shack.
McDonald's fries were killer back when they were fried in beef tallow. Now they are a sad pale shadow of past glory.
KFC original chicken w bones in it remains awesome.
Arby's roast beast is good in an artificial way. I also enjoy the Double R Bar burger with ham and cheese on it. And the many Arby's sauces including horsey.
I don't eat this junk much - I don't love it or hate it - but it is useful on road trips.

I don't think Taco Bell is better than Applebees, and I hate Applebees. Taco Bell is perhaps my least favorite FF choice though.
Also, I think airports are about as interesting as fast food. But what about fast food choices in airports? Do you go with that, or go a bit more upscale when grabbing something waiting for your flight?

i get a beer and a salad if im by myself or i get the regional fast food if Im with my family at the airport. but i try to eat prior to the airport.

the last bunch of airports i've gone to have been great, bc there's usually a local brewery or restaurant affiliated with a local brewer there. San Diego airport is the best though, with the Stone Brewing Co. restaurant. I also love airports that let you grab a beer then walk around the airport

Actually, I lied when I said I don't love or hate most FF.
I LOVE Taco Bell. Anything - beans, meat, etc - wrapped in that super soft flour tortilla. Ay yi yi. Better than Chipotle or On the Border.
Not better quality, just better guilty pleasure.

It wasn't that long ago that you couldn't find any place to sit and watch tv at Philly airport, but now there are a few decent options.
Did anyone ever actually use those coin-operated tvs in airports?
Oh, and there's an Arby's in BWI.

I once had like 8 beers there before my redeye back and ended up waking up in a cold sweat and laying down in the bathroom.
