Tom Delay says he will disobey the courts if they rule in favor of gay marriage

which isn't surprising considering he was removed from congress after disobeying election laws

Pete Ricketts seems rather bloodthirsty at this point, wants to execute prisoners despite the veto override

How is Tom DeLay going to disobey the courts if they rule in favor of gay marriage? Write an angry letter? He hasn't held elective office in a decade.

He will refuse to get married to a man, I think

Automatic voter registration for every citizen when they turn 18 seems like such a logical thing. Of course, the Republicans will hate it.

can anyone remember the name of the congressman from california that died of a brain tumor or something similar in the early 90's. He was a big social security supporter, maybe even the leader of the fight against changes.

I think that info is correct, but my inability to find the name using google suggests I may have some piece of it wrong.

nevermind. I think it was Matsui I was thinking about. He died in the mid 2000's rather than the mid 1990's.

thanks. I found that same list and was looking in the wrong decade. I also had the feeling his name started with an L.

I think he was poisoned.

Turkish election returns coming in and Erdogan, whose right wing Islamic party has ruled the country with a majority in Parliament for 13 years, appears to be falling short of a majority this time. They're still the biggest party, but he's a bit Putin-ish and had wanted to change the constitution to shift the country to a presidential system so he could flex those strongman muscles more forcefully. Without a majority that seems unlikely to happen, which is good.

I'd like to see this issue called out. If you claim something enough times , w coded language - eventually it is actually taken seriously.

He's been riding high on turning their economy into overdrive and appealing to the more religious non-Istanbul but I think his antics and crackdown on the press and political opponents combined with how they've been handling (or not handling) their border has really led to a backlash. I can only hope he pulls back now. Turkey is an important country for the region and has a terrific history of democracy which Erodgan has been destroying.
