Jeb is quite smart. This is his first campaign in 13 years, and it shows. A great visionary wrote about this back in December.

Just a few days in (hey, he declared, dammit) and he already looks Fred-Thompson-peevish about campaigning.

He'll probably soldier on, but if so he's gonna be a less-happily-ordained least-objectionable choice for Republicans than Romney was.

Republican party, party of pedophile okers

Mike Huckabee stands by Josh Duggar, family

"Josh's actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, 'inexcusable,' but that doesn't mean 'unforgivable,'" Huckabee wrote in a Facebook post. "He and his family dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities. No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story."

Ireland is the first country to approve marriage equality via the popular vote.

http://foreignpolicy.com/2015/05/25/its ... tate-iran/ The title is misleading, although the author notes how convenient it was to have totalitarians in place.

Foreign Policy yearns for the good old days:

Though imperialism is now held in disrepute, empire has been the default means of governance for most of recorded history...

My sense is Kaplan is incorrect on the history, because humans were 'recording history' well before the establishment of anything recognizable as an empire.

and as for:

the region has still not found a solution to the collapse of the Ottoman Empire after World War I.

Did "the region" really have any opportunity to do this solution finding Kaplan surmises? I believe we were told a lot of the solution-finding was done by old white European guys. Kaplan gets around to kinda-sorta correcting his boner in a paragraph or so, but jeez. And

Only suffocating totalitarian regimes could control these artificial countries formed from vague geographical expressions.

Kaplan of course can't know this assertion is true; it's just sort of what looks like happened in his rear-view mirror.

To contain a post-accord Iran, the United States will need not only to bolster Saudi Arabia, but Egypt and Turkey as well.

holy John McCain, Batman

this recent comment on the piece may sum it up best:

JSwriter wrote:Never one to miss an opportunity to push for Pax Americana, Neocon Godfather Kaplan is in top form arguing for more military intervention as the answer for the problems caused by military intervention.
