I think they suspect something similar is going on. The first time it happened in late March, which was the week of my class's midterm exam. I think online classes are mostly stupid anyway, but they're really bad when the platform is inaccessible. We had a Blackboard issue that fortunately took place over winter break, but the system behaved oddly for some for awhile after that. We're going to move from hosting Blackboard on our own server to having Blackboard host it. (I think that's what's happening.)

Anyway, I think one problem with Blackboard is it was originally designed to be used as course management software and and is now being used to deliver on-line courses. Thus, they've piled on features, some of which they bought from other vendors, and it's not clear they all work and play together nicely.
